18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. (Matt 16:18, NKJV)

Does it mean that members of Christ’s Church will not experience death? Apostle answered:

16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. (I Thessalonians 4:16, NKJV)

After those who died in Christ ressurected, what will happen? Apostle John answered:

6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years. (Revelations 20:6, NKJV)

It is clear that those who are part of the first resurrection will be save from the second death. What is Second Death? According to Apostle John:

14Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. (Revelations 20:14, NIV)

The Second Death is the lake of fire.

Therefore: The main purpose why Christ founded His Church, is to save those who are inside the Church from the wrath of God on Judgment Day.
