Question: What should be the reasons why the church founded by Christ is called “Church of Christ”?

Answer:

There are actually several reasons why the church founded by Christ is called “Church of Christ”:

First of all, Christ Himself is the founder of the Church:

18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. (Matthew 16:18, NKJV)

And it is His body:

18And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. (Colossians 1:18, NIV)

The body is called according to the name of the head isn’t it? If the name of the head is SELaplana, then the body must be called as “body of SELaplana”. Since, the church is the body of Christ, it is therefore correct to call the church “Church of Christ”.
Then Christ’s purchased it with His own blood:

28 Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. (Acts 20:28, NKJV)

If someone purchased a product in the store, the ownership of the product has been included on what has been purchased. If you buy house and lot from Mr. Juan Dela Cruz worth 10M, the ownership of these will be transferred to you. Since Christ purchased the church with his own blood, then the church is His already. So it is correct to call the church “Church of Christ”.

The Church is also Christ’s wife:

23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. 30 For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. 31 “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32 This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. (Ephesians 5:23-24,29-32, NKJV)

You’ll notice that after the marriage, the name of the woman will be changed into the name of the man. For example: the name of my fiancee is Junith Malot. After our marriage, her name will be changed to Junith Laplana, because Laplana is my name. And since the church is Christ’s wife, then it is therefore correct to call the church according to Christ’s name as “Church of Christ”.
