The Book of the DeadMa’am Bing posted at her blog about the Ghost. Her blogpost is “Talked To A Ghost?” and it’s an interesting post. I promised at the comment section of it that I will post here (at my blog) a blogpost about the Ghost or something like that with complete Bible Verse Quotations in order to make it clear whether there is ghost according to the Bible… And here we are.

To let you know, man is composed of three: Body, Soul and Spirit.

23May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (I Thessalonians 5:23, NIV)

In other words, the popular belief that man is composed only by the Spirit and Body is wrong based on the truth written on the Bible. Let us remember that Spirit is different from Soul and the Soul is not the Spirit.

Now, if a man dies, what will happen to the Spirit, Soul and Body? According to the Bible, the Body will return to dust:

19 By the sweat of your brow
you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will return.” (Genesis 3:19, NIV)

The Spirit will return to God because it was God who gave it:

7 and the dust returns to the ground it came from,
and the spirit returns to God who gave it. (Ecclesiastes 12:7, NIV)

And then the soul bowed down to the dust:

25 For our soul is bowed down to the dust;
Our body clings to the ground. (Psalms 44:25, NKJV)

In other words, there is no ghost that exist after a man dies, because while man is dead, his soul (other refer this as the Ghost) will be with the dust.

And as proof that dead can no longer talk with the living, the book of Ecclesiastes recorded this:

5 For the living know that they will die,
but the dead know nothing;
they have no further reward,
and even the memory of them is forgotten.

6 Their love, their hate
and their jealousy have long since vanished;
never again will they have a part
in anything that happens under the sun
. (Ecclesiastes 9:5-6, NIV)

According to the Holy Scriptures, the dead know nothing, and they have no part in anything that happens under the sun. they can’t even praise God:

17 The dead do not praise the LORD,
Nor any who go down into silence. (Psalms 115:17, NKJV)

That’s the reason why it is not righteous to pray for the Saints who are already dead for a long time, because they can no longer help the living to praise God.

But, they said that when a man dies, he will immediately brought to either heaven, purgatory or hell. How true is it according to the Bible?

The Bible told us that a dead man is like a man who is sleeping and he will not rise until the heavens will vanish.

10 But man dies and is laid away;
Indeed he breathes his last
And where is he?

11 As water disappears from the sea,
And a river becomes parched and dries up,

12 So man lies down and does not rise.
Till the heavens are no more,
They will not awake
Nor be roused from their sleep.
(Job 14:10-12, NIV)

The time when heaven and earth will vanish is the time wherein the Holy City will come down, the time of Salvation from the wrath of God.

1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (Revelations 21:1-4, NIV)

It is the day of the Lord:

10But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. (II Peter 3:10-12, NIV)

The time of Judgment:

2 Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. (Daniel 12:2, NIV)

So, it is clear that the saints of the Roman Catholic Church is not really in heavens, instead their body is still in dust, their souls are with the dust and their spirit returns to God. And it is not true that souls of the dead are brought directly to heaven or purgatory or hell, because man will enter the heaven or the hell during the judgment Day. I also want you take note: There is no purgatory in the Bible.
In other words, there is no Ghost that exist in earth.
