According to the news, 42 climbers reached the summit of Mt. Everest. Among them are the team of Filipino climbers who planted for the first time the Philippine Flag on the summit at 3:30pm (Nepal Time).
Another British couple, Pauline and Phil Sanderson of Speyside, became the first British married couple to climb Everest when they reached the 29,035ft peak at dawn from the mountains North side.
Thinking that the activity is climbing the World’s Highest Peak, I couldn’t believe that a 70 years old Japanese could scale the Mount Everest. Takao Arayama, at 70 years, 7 months and 13 days, became the oldest person in the world to scale Mount Everest.
However, there are climbers who experienced bad luck after reaching the summit. A Swedish adveturer fell off while climbing down the mountain.
Tomas Olsson was climbing down the side of a rock ledge when the safety clips holding his rope broke off, and he plunged 10m before disappearing down the north side of the mountain on Tuesday, said Mats Lennartson, a spokesperson for Olsson’s expedition.(link)
