Afraid of the Da Vinci Code?

Leonardo da Vinci The Codex Leicester SoftwareChristians throughout the world are protesting against the showing of the Da Vinci Code movie and they’re calling the authorities of every nations to ban it including the Da Vinci Code books, especially that of Dan Brown.

For example, in the Philippines, Christians burned copies of the Da Vinci Code novel and DVDs or CD’s.

But I was wondering, why Christians are afraid of that certain piece (novel and movie) which is just a product of the authors imagination. Are they afraid that their followers will turn away from their faith?

To let you know, the apostasy of the true Church of Christ founded by Christ Himself on the first century was already experienced by the church after the true Apostles of Christ died. Apostle Paul warned the first century Church of Christ members about it by saying:

29I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. (Acts 20:29, NIV)

When Apostle Paul said, “I LEAVE”, it doesn’t mean that he’s going to somewhere here on earth, but it refers to his death, which made the Churches of Christ grieve.

38What grieved them most was his statement that they would never see his face again. Then they accompanied him to the ship. (Acts 20:38, ibid)

In other words, after the death of Apostle Paul, savage wolves will come into the Church and will not spare the Church. What does it mean? It means that those who stand firm with his faith will be put into death.

9″Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. (Matthew 24:9, ibid)

Is this pronouncement of Apostle Paul happened? Yes. It was during the time wherein members of the Church of Christ were severely persecuted by the Roman Government and then during the Inquisition of the Roman Catholic Church imposed to those who are accused by the Roman Catholic Authority as Heretics. How many millions of men were burned alive through the Inquisition just because they stood firm on the faith they received? And take note on what Apostle had said, “These wolves will not spare the flock.

29I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. (Acts 20:29, NIV)

What does it mean? It means that those who are firm with their faith will be put to death and the others will be led away. That is because according to Apostle Paul, among the members of the first century Church of Christ, there are those who will apostatize the church.

30Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. (Acts 20:30, ibid)

To make it clearer, after the Apostles died, Wolves will come in among the members of the first century Church of Christ and will kill those who are firm with their faith otherwise be led away from the truth they received from Christ and from the Apostles.

After the true Church of Christ (the first century Church) was apostatized, what happened next? The different Church with different doctrines existed, and that is the Roman Catholic Church in which other Christian Sects also came from.

So, members of the Roman Catholic Church and other churches coming from it should not be afraid that they will be led astray from the original Christian faith because they are already upholding the belief not of that of the original and true Christians.

Instead of protesting against the Da Vinci Code, the movie and the novel, they should now start to seek for the truth, walk and live with it. And they can only find it on the Holy Bible, in which the original Christian Faith were recorded.

And to all who wants to entertain themselves, the Da Vinci Code movie is still showing with R-18 rating throughout the world. Enjoy watching.

I think these the words of Jesus and not of the Apostle Paul.
In the response to the context of the blog, I think Christians should react neither violently nor remotely on this movie. It should be a challenge for them how to be able to defend their (our) faith. Why would we be so afraid about this movie (I am not encouraging anyone to watch this movie though). I also had the same reaction at first (until now I haven’t seen the movie myself as well – I don’t see any reasons to see it). But after I read the book “21 Reasons that God exists,” I can say that I can watch this movie over and over again and yet stand firm on my ground.

“If you start with certainties, you might end up in doubts. If you start with doubts, you will likely end up in certainties.”

There’s no wrong asking critical questions about what you believe in. Actually even the Apostle Peter is encouraging every Believer to be ready, in season and out of season, to defend their faith.
