Janggeum’s Dream is a beatifully crafted Korean animation, loosely spun off the hit Korean drama, Dae Janggeum, or, Jewl in the Palce. Janggeum’s Dream has been altered quite a bit to attract older children and pretten, primarily girls. I have both volumes of this 26-episode series.

I must warn, however, than the english translation is rather poor. The subtitles contain many grammar and spelling errors, but the vital ideas of the character’s lines are still understandable. (My korean is proficient enough to understand the animation without subtitles).

Each DVD contains new Extra features, along with scene selection, and subtitle options.

The fourth DVD on Both volumes contain the same material about the making of the animation series but MBC (Korean TV station).

Like Japanese Anime, Jangguem’s Dream shares visual expression and detail. But unique to the Japanese Anime, this korean Manwha (cartoon) has its’ own unique style, teaches more about Korean history and culture.

Because Janggeum’s Dream is targeted towards children roughtly between the ags of 8-13, it does carry a very light-hearted and cheerful atmosphere. Though, there are in-depth plots and values to be understood and learned throughout the series. In my opinion, this makes the series very enjoyable for anyone of any age with an open mind.

I fell in love with the series the first time I saw it airing in South Korea. And i’m almost 20!!
