There are very few people in Chungmuro who have had as adventurous a life as Director Lee Gyu Hyeong. When he was in High School he participated in a famous TV Quiz Show, won it, and thanks to it went on a backpack trip around the world, writing about his experiences on newspapers and magazines, and even talking about it on TV shows. After enrolling at Hanyang University, he became the first College student to debut as a Film Director, and even founded his own production company, turning his novel about his travels Blue Sketch into a film. He wrote half a dozen best-sellers, including Sketch Book, Lee Gyu Hyeong’s European Flight, Good Morning Mr. President and more. One of them, Springtime of Mimi and Cheol-Su became a 1987 film, triumphing at the box office thanks to the star power of Kang Su Yeon, freshly crowned World Star at several overseas festivals, and the rising star of Park Joong Hoon.
College students Cheol-Su and Mimi’s relationship has been walking that fine line between love and friendship for a while. They meet Bo Mul-Seom, a law student who instantly becomes a good friend, but when they find out he’s about to die they decide to spend one last trip together to the Coast, to give him the chance to end on a memorable note. Kim Se Jun won Best New Actor at the 26th Daejong Film Awards, which also crowned Lee Best New Director. A mixture of melodrama, comedy (there’s a character named Choi Alain Delon, beat that!) and all the trends which will bring you back to the late 80’s, Springtime of Mimi and Cheol-Su was one of the biggest successes of the 80’s, and a clear sign that Park Joong Hoon would become a star.
Like all the other Taeheung Pictures releases, this special edition of Springtime of Mimi and Cheol-Su was remastered through a HD telecine, and also includes a Theatrical Trailer and Still Gallery.
