Pinoy Pulis A Hero Too?

I recently posted about the heroism of a US Marines in Iraq and wrote on that post my doubts if Pinoy (Filipino) can do the same.

What Cpl. Dunham did was really great. I don’t know If I can do that when I am in that situation. And I don’t think Pinoys can do that too. What do you think?

But last Wednesday (November 29, 2006), my doubt has been made false by the incident happened in Crame.

On Wednesday about 11:30 p.m., as the celebration was in progress at the multipurpose hall, Chief Insp. Renato Poscablo, clad in a white laboratory coat worn over his police uniform, arrived, drew a .9mm caliber pistol, and fired at Chief Supt. Federico Damatac, who was seated at a table.

The head of PNP-HS, Damatac did not see his assailant coming. His back was turned at the time.

Initial report revealed that the first shot hit Damatac in the upper back, causing him to fall. His aide-de-camp, Senior Insp. Winnie Temprosa, stepped in the line of fire and stopped the succeeding bullets. ….

The other PNP-HS personnel, whose firearms had been surrendered before entering the hall, started throwing chairs at Poscablo, as he tried to reload. At this point, Castro fired another shot, this time hitting Poscablo in the chest. But Poscablo was able to pull the pin off a fragmentation grenade before keeling over.

Finally, Poscablo was overpowered by several police officers. Meanwhile, Temprosa, already wounded, covered the grenade with his body, seeing it rolling toward Damatac. The explosion mangled portions of his body and cracked his skull. He died on the spot.

How I wish can offer my life to save others too.
