When I was still running an internet cafe, one of the things that I feared of is the raiding operation of the NBI against end-user of the pirated products.

Recently, Gerry’s Grill’s computers were confiscated by the raiding NBI team:

Agents of the NBI Intellectual Property Rights Division (IPRD) seized computers of the Prime Pacific Grill Corp., operator of the chain of Gerry’s Grill restaurant, at the 2nd and 3rd floors of FMA Building in Baler Street, San Francisco del Monte, Quezon City.

The authorities confiscated 47 PCs allegedly loaded with unlicensed Microsoft and Adobe software amounting to about five million pesos, according to the Pilipinas Anti-Piracy Team (PAPT), which the NBI is a member.

I don’t really want to be imprisoned even just in several days or pay fine of several thousands:

“Their use of software with no license is a clear violation of the IPR laws which is punishable by up to nine years of imprisonment and a fine of up to 1.5 million pesos,” said Lawyer Jose Justo Yap, head of NBI-IPRD, in a statement.

That’s why when I got problem in my space rentals, I immediately stopped my business and went home.
