Online players here in one of the internet cafes here in Sogod, Southern Leyte were complaining that they couldn’t log-in with the popular online games. They thought the the PC they’re using had problems.
I think, it is still part of the problems brought by the Earthquake that hit Taiwan yesterday (Philippine time).
A 7.1-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Taiwan on Tuesday night, which was followed by several smaller quakes in the region, apparently damaged the vast network of underwater cables that enables modern communication.
“The Internet capacity in Taiwan is about 40 percent now, so the service is jammed,” said a spokesman for Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan’s largest phone company. (source)
Yesterday, I wasn’t thinking that internet blackout we experienced in Maasin City was already the effect of the said quake. We’re just wondering what happened for BayanDSL and Globelines Broadband were offline from 11:00 AM to 2:00PM (Philippine Time). Usually, when BayanDSL is down, the Globelines Broadband is fast enough than its usual speed and vice versa. But yesterday, internet users in that City were wandering from internet cafe to the other looking for a cafe that could cater their communication needs.
Now, the key phrase “Taiwan Earthquake” is now the top 3 popular searches made through the Yahoo! Search Engine.

Hmm… that is very interesting. Is the Visayas Internet Connection not part of PHIX (PHilippine Internet eXchange)? Coz if they are playing local online games, they should be able to connect because all of them are connected to PHIX to give local players faster access.
If the Visayas Internet is not connected to the “local-loop” (as sometimes called), then I understand why the can’t connect, since the Philippines was suddenly disconnected from the world.
Very interesting, I thought the whole country is supposed to be inter-connected via the local-loop/PHIX.
