A rare Hollywood production that features a Chinese cast, Shanghai Red unveils a complex story of vengeance and deception, starting with a mysterious murder case. Created by veteran TV director/producer Oscar L. Costo, Shanghai Red actually sees his first collaboration with his wife, famous Chinese actress Vivian Wu (The Soong Sisters). The movie also gathers such famous names as multiple Best Actor winner Ge You (Night Banquet), Hong Kong singer Kenny Bee, and Sun Honglei from Seven Swords.

Vivian Wu stars as Zhu Meili, an aggressive woman who pushes her husband to earn more money for the family. Unfortunately, her man gets killed by their business competitors, leaving the guilt-stricken Meili determined to take revenge. Obsessed with vengeance, she turns her desires, passion, and all her emotions into a destructive force…
