It was reported that one of the Big Four (term used by Jobs) music companies, EMI is now on the move to sell unprotected music:

Music company EMI Group PLC — home of The Rolling Stones and Coldplay — has been talking with online retailers about possibly selling its entire digital music catalog in MP3 format without copy protection, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday, citing numerous people familiar with the matter. I think, it’s the answer of EMI to the open letter of Mr. Jobs (which made me sleepy), “Thoughts on Music“.

Mr. Jobs is right. The DRM system used by Apple to protect the music they sell is not really working. Just imagine, Apple is selling protected music while these so-called Big Four are selling unprotected ones.

Though the big four music companies require that all their music sold online be protected with DRMs, these same music companies continue to sell billions of CDs a year which contain completely unprotected music. That’s right! No DRM system was ever developed for the CD, so all the music distributed on CDs can be easily uploaded to the Internet, then (illegally) downloaded and played on any computer or player.

So, let’s just wish that the other three of the so-called Big Four will follow what the EMI did. Let the sellers sell the music online even without the DRM. It’s the consumers advantage ofcourse. And it is better to be like this than allowing the Apple to monopolize the market with that DRM thing.
