Authorities discovered methadone inside the refrigerator at Anna Nicole’s bedroom. The TMZ.COM got some photos of it.

But what Methadone is?

The Wikipedia defines it as:

Methadone is a synthetic opioid analgesic synthesized in 1937 by German scientists Max Bockmühl and Gustav Ehrhart at IG Farben (Hoechst-Am-Main) who were searching for an analgesic that would be easier to use during surgery and also have low addiction potential. Methadone is a Schedule I drug under the Single Convention on Narcotic Drug.

It is a synthetic drug which is similar to morphine but is less habit-forming, according to pinceton.edu. It is a heroin substitute because it has a longer half-life and less sedation and it is used to prevent withdrawal symptoms (source). And according to ISHOULDQUIT.COM it is a powerful synthetic drug (usually administered in orange juice addicts can get when they have detoxed from heroin. It is very addictive, the effects last about 20 to 24 hours and addicts must get their “dose” daily from a registered health care provider. In Massachusettts a non-profit agency called “Habit Management” serves thousands of ex-heroin users in Lawrence, Lowell, South Yarmouth and Boston.
