I accidentally visited the blog which is ranked 504th by the Technorati (as to the time of posting this post) as shown on the screenshot below:
Of course I know that after posting this post, that ranking will change because of the links to that blog I posted on this post and other links posted by other blogs reviewing that blog.
But what the good news about the 504th blog? Well, John Chow, the owner of that blog offer backlinks to those who will post review about his blog, John Chow dot com:
The concept is simple - review my blog and I’ll link to your review. The review must be at least 200 words long and you have to include a link to the blog home page and this post. You are free to link to any other posts as well. You are to be completely honest with the review - state what you like and don’t like about the site. It doesn’t matter what categories your blog covers and it doesn’t have to be in English. I will accept all reviews.
It’s actually my first time to know a popular blog generously giving backlinks to other blogs, epecially those who have lesser backlinks.
However, I also consider his way of giving backlinks a linkbait. Remember that John Chow will not post backlinks to our blog until we post a review (an honest review) about his blog. With this way, he’s also saving $5 on every links posted by those reviewing his blog.
Let’s say there are one thousand blogs reacted his calls to give backlinks to those who will review his blog. And at the PayPerPost, each review costs $5. And with 1,000 review posted in just one month, so John Chow saved $5,000.
It’s very good idea of harvesting links from other blogs. And his quiet successful for this campaign for his Technorati rank jumped from 1,529th (based on his post as quoted below) to 504th.
This deal may not be as sweet as the PayPerPost deal where you’ll get a linkback and $5.00 but for the new blog with no PageRank and no backlinks, this is your chance to get some much needed exposure and receive a linkback from a blog that is ranked 1,529 on Technorati. (emphasis mine)
Anyway, the effort of the bloggers who review his blog is not wasted because in the first place, they’ll receive backlinks from John Chow’s blog and at the same time the visitors they referred to that blog will really learn something from John Chow and most likely will enjoy reading John Chow’s posts, in which most of them are about technology.

iyon>>> when writing a review of a blog, you will write it and post it into your own blog just like telling your readers about the blog you’re reviewing. But a link to the blog you are reviewing should be published within the review.
