Yahoo! and Krugle Unite on Valentines Day

Although I am not celebrating nor observing the Valentines Day as the others do, but I can’t just forget it because I know it is one of the most important days for the lovers around the world, especially to Yahoo! and Krugle which revealed on this day their unity through the Yahoo! Developer Network.

I wonder if Yahoo! listened the promotion of Scobble about the Krudle Search who finds it a better Search Engine than other search engines including Google and Technorati:

Krugle does something demonstratable that Google does not do: searches code and indexes it and helps developers in a real, demonstrable way.

Or maybe Scoble heard about Krugle when Yahoo!’s doing their moves to partner Krugle on their Search services that led him to feature and review the Krugle system and encouraged Yahoo! more to,

Buy it, and buy it now.

So, what’s the role of Krugle to Yahoo! when in fact Yahoo! is already a search engine? Krugle briefly answered it:

Don’t fret…we are crawling the YDN code and tech pages as we speak!

Okay. Krugle will crawl the Yahoo! Developer Network and will serve every searches made on the Network. Remember that Krugle is a code search engine for developers.

Krugle, the code search engine for developers, and was founded in 2005 around the idea of contextual search. Krugle’s code search engine makes it easy for developers to find the code they need plus the related technical and licensing information to evaluate and use that code. Krugle lets developers save their search information, share it, and get comments and feedback on code. This essential development process of searching, evaluating and communicating are directly aimed at developers’ needs.

Krugle crawls, parses and indexes code found in public repositories, as well as approved private repositories, forums, blogs, and web pages. Results start with a single source file and also its relationship any another files, to understand its use and dependencies. This ability to interactively browse and explore code in a meaningful context provides more accurate results and reduces the time required to make good code decisions. (source)

In other words, Yahoo! admitted indirectly that its own search capability is a big failure compared to Google which has its own Code Search. So, the very step Yahoo! should make is to get a third party service that will cater the Yahoo! users in code search at the Yahoo! Developer Network.

But the problem is, Yahoo! might abandone Krugle after the time when its own search engine can handle code searches. Remember the history of Google and Yahoo! partnership?

However, in the other side, if Yahoo! decides to purchase Krugle, then it will be better.
