Herman Yau, a veteran director famous for cult films such as The Untold Story, adds one more title to the lengthy list of crime films in Hong Kong cinema. A Mob Story details an assassin’s story with Julian Cheung playing a lonely killer who flees to Taiwan after failing his task. Produced by Infernal Affairs director Andrew Lau, the film also stars comedian Cheung Tat Ming, singer Mandy Chiang, and Taiwanese hot babe Ivy Yi. The film was premiered at the Hong Kong International Film Festival in early 2007, and is now out on DVD even before its commercial theatrical release. A Mob Story revives the typical gangster film style of the 1990s, straightforward but forceful, offering a deeper dimension more than just hard-boiled actions.

From singer to TV actor, and then film actor (Heavenly Mission, Wo Hu) Julian Cheung Chi Lam now stars as a merciless assassin nicknamed Seven. Commissioned to end the life of someone who killed his father twenty years ago, he does not even has in his mind the word “revenge”, for he knows too well that the distinction between right and wrong simply does not exist in the underworld. Failing his mission, he flees to Taiwan to meet a childhood friend, and there he encounters a betelnut girl. He also knows too well that he cannot escape from his unfinished task forever…
