Yahoo! announced today that their search system supported already the NOYDIR directory. NOYDIR stands for “No Yahoo! Directory”, the same as NOODP which stands for “No ODP”. The NOYDIR meta tag can be implemented by inserting the codes to the header section of the page:
<META NAME=”ROBOTS” CONTENT=”NOYDIR”>
or
<META NAME=”Slurp” CONTENT=”NOYDIR”>
This meta tag is actually the result when webmasters complained that the Yahoo! Directory listing of sites affected the sites click through ratio and ranking on the Web Search Results. This is actually similar cases to the sites listed on the ODP.
What’s the use of this? This is to tell Yahoo! Search not to use Yahoo! Directory titles or abstracts for the URL in web search results.
