Google Promised Changes on Googling Results

Vanessa Fox posted at the Google Webmasters Central blog some information about the Google’s site: search.

Duplicate Pages:

When doing site: search (for example searching for “site:www.selaplana.com” without quotes), pages that appear to be duplicate will not be shown on the SER. Google considers those pages with the same title and description as duplicate pages.

Regarding the site: search for this blog, the result is as shown below:

Google Search

Only the homepage of this blog was displayed on the Google SER, and it is said that only 261 found for the www.selaplana.com. Seems that there’s a problem here. Remember that this blog contains more than a thousand of posts plus some other pages such as Category pages, Archive Pages, Tags and others, so we are expecting not only 261 pages which should be included on Google index but thousands of them. So, as what she said, they are now making any changes to this.

To show the most relevant results, we omitted some results that seems to be the same as the 1 result showed. To see the full list, you can repeat the search with omitted results included. (idiotly translated by me)). And I found out that on the first pages of the Google SER are those pages automatically created by Technorati Tagging Wordpress plugins as shown below:

Google Search

It seems that Google is right. Lot of pages on this blog look the same, because they have the same Title and Description except on the URL.

Different Pages:

Another issue that Google is said to be resolving it, is when Google still doesn’t show a full list of results even when the pages are different. And it’s a good thing to know that it’s just a display issue when doing the site: search with no associated query, and that it doesn’t affect the search rankings of the pages.

Lastly:

Ms Fox promised this:

Because this change to show all results for site: queries doesn’t affect search rankings at all, it will probably happen in the normal course of events as we merge this change into the next time that we push a new executable for handling the site: command. As a result, it may be several weeks or so before you start to see this change, but we’ll keep monitoring it to make sure the change goes out.

Good luck to all Googlers!
