Turkish Blocked Youtube
It seems that Youtube experienced a lot of bad things after Google acquired it last year. I thought, its deal with BBC is the end of the bad luck on Youtubes fate. But I was wrong, because now Youtube is unaccessible in Turkey as ordered by the Turkish court.
According to the news, Turk Telecom implemented the ban (as ordered by the Turkish court) after Greeks posted insulting videos (insulting Turkish founder) at the popular video sharing site (Youtube).
Greek and Turkish YouTube users have been trading video insults over the past few months, attracting much coverage in the Turkish press. Greek videos reportedly accused the founding president of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, of homosexuality; a Turkish user responded by calling Greece the birthplace of homosexuality.
This is (uploading offensive videos) of course expected to a user-generated site like this. It might be true that Youtube deleted immediately those insulting-videos but I understand that blocking the access to this site is one of the best thing to do to let the Turkish avoid watching those videos which they considered insulting to them.
This incident reminds of Yuga who was sued for hosting libelous site through his hosting company.
But, this action of the Turkish government against Youtube is the same as what the authors of the Philippine History book did to our nations history. If you only knew that lot of things happened which can be considered as part of our nation’s history were ommitted from the official history of the Philippines. One of the example to this is the dispute between General Aguinaldo and Andress Bonifacio who are both considered the national heroes of the Philippines (and the real reason of Bonifacio’s death).
As one of the fans of Youtube, I hope that time come that Turkish government will again open their way for the Youtube.
