Rumors said that Microsoft is about to acquire Tellme (the company that offers web info-search through the telephone) for about $800 million.
The talks continue, but some of our sources say don’t expect an announcement Tuesday. The two outlets speculate that Tellme could fetch up to $800 million, but our source, someone quite familiar with the company say that the price is north of the reported numbers.
So why is it that Microsoft is so interested with the speech technology? Well, Microsoft is already working for this kind of technology and it just happened that they have failed to come up with the technology as good as the one created by the Tellme Network. This move is the same as what Google did with Youtube, when in fact Google has its own Google Video.
Microsoft can do a lot of things with the Tellme technology because Microsoft is already working for it ever since. They can implement it to their Windows products and other products that they have. And of course, it is part of its competition with Google in local information search from data to voice.
