The Last Blogger asks, “Does commenting on other blogs get you backlinks?”

Well. I just want to tell you Last Blogger that commenting to other blogs really get you backlinks. Actually, even if you didn’t drop your comment here you already got backlink to your blog fromt this post.

See! You only post your comment about backlinks when commenting to other blogs without really dropping your comment to a certain blog but then you got that backlink. So, what’s my point?

Okay. I know that you are one of the regular visitors and commenters at the John Chow Dot Com blog. Your comments posted at that blog has lead Chow Chow to share his blog-link to yours. But not only that. The comments you made have lead me to your blog which resulted to discovering the great post you have.

Then what’s the lesson from it?

There’s only one important lesson you must learn from it: Give other bloggers the reason to give you link. By spending much time reading the blogposts made by other bloggers at their blogs and writing comments about them is already a great reason so that the owner of those blogs you commented will give you backlinks for free.

But you must not forget this: When you comment, don’t just write any useless things. Read the post first and write your thoughts about the post, share any arguments and even criticize it if you think it should be criticized. Dropping comments like: “Hey your blog is so nice” but then you didn’t mention those factors which lead you to conclude that this site is really nice, can be considered as spam comment. Yes! and I do delete them because comments like this only consume database space and bandwidth.

Actually, my way of moderating comments has little similarity to what Shoemoney is doing at his blog. But did you that the disciplinary action he did for those doing that is more wicked that mine? Okay, read his message:

Effective immediately if you enter spammy crap for your name in comments you will be blacklisted. Also people making 1 liners that have nothing to do with the post will be blacklisted. 1st/last warning. I am sure whiners will leave and thats fine because if your here just to spam my blog your not welcome.

So, another lesson that you must consider is: Be careful when commenting. There are other bloggers who really blacklist your IP if you do some questionable commenting.
