The rumor about the acquisition of Photobucket by Myspace reached the Techcrunch today, and it was confirmed that the acquisition will be at $250million or $300 million. The talk was made after MySpace blocked the Photobucket which led us to think that MySpace will be creating its Photobucket equivalent.

The acquisition will be of benefit to each of them as pointed out by Steve, and do make sense according to Mathew, just like what ebay did to Paypal. But, it is somewhat a badnews for the other startups that make photo and slide sharing widgets for MySpace.

This acquisition has been compared by Techcrunch to the acquisition of Youtube by Google, and wrote this:

Did Google overpay for YouTube? Did MySpace get Photobucket for a steal? Perhaps both. But in the end, being no. 1 in a category means you get a premium on acquisition. In the case of YouTube, that premium seems to be about 4x.
