Making Money with DataStreams or CSV Reader

I accepted a ReviewMe campaign from CSVReader.com which will earn me $5. I immediately checked the target page but I found it hard to review it because of my confusion on what CSV mean.

I googled the definition of it and found several meaning as listed below:

  1. The comma-separated values (CSV) file format is a tabular data format that has fields separated by the comma character and quoted by the double quote character. If a field’s value contains a double quote character it is escaped with a pair of double quote characters. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.csv)
  2. A file with Comma Separated Values. One can sava a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet to a CSV file and use Oracle’s SQL*Loader program to upload the CSV file into a table. (www.orafaq.com/glossary/faqglosc.htm)
  3. Comma-separated variables. A file format, commonly used for spreadsheets and databases, which uses a comma to separate the stored data fields. The advantage is that the comma is part of the standard Ascii character set so there’s no barrier to the readabi1ity of files including it; the disadvantage is that if an actual comma is present within the data, it must be surrounded by double quotes to avoid being read as a field break. (www.msun.edu/infotech/its/how/glossary/c.htm)

So, I guess I understand a little about it. I was using it before when I wrote computerized examination program when I was still in college.

About CSV Reader

I am actually reviewing here the product called DataStreams. And according to the offered campaign, “DataStreams is a component library for .Net developers to easily integrate data from various formats like CSV, Excel, and XML into their applications“. In other words, it’s a kind of data or software that can be used with applications.

It can be downloaded but you need to pay the price (depending on the license type) as shown below:

DataStreams

I downloaded the freedemo version here, and checked how can I use it, but am just a dumb blogger who has the hard time understanding what are these things.

Reviewing a product like this really forced me to do some copy-and-paste activities. After all, I am a copy-and-paste maniac. Okay, let me paste here what I found on that homepage:

Csv Reader is an extremely fast and stable .Net class for stream based parsing of virtually any commonly found delimited data format, CSV files, tab delimited files, etc. It’s usable from C#, VB.Net, ASP.Net, or any other .Net language. It’s compatible with the 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0 .Net frameworks. The methods are designed for ease of use, while the inner architecture is designed purely for speed and efficiency. Parsing is done using the de facto standard CSV file specifications.

That’s posted on the introduction part. And it made me wonders if DataStreams is the CSV Reader itself. Okay, whatever… Anyway, I will only be paid here for $5.00 and that amount is just enough for the link posted on this blog which will stay here forever.

If you have questions regarding DataStreams or CSV Reader, I think, it will be better if you’ll address your questions to bruce@csvreader.com.

Good luck!
