Of all bloggers that I know, it’s John Chow who is the most evilest blogger of all. He employs some evil tricks on his blog so that his blog will get the most attention that he is dreaming of and… far beyond. For several months, John Chow’s blog seems great because it was on the top most of the SERP when googling “Make Money Online“. But after sometimes, Google dropped John Chow’s blog from its index. According to many bloggers and SEO experts, Google hates the way John got his blog’s SERP and Google calls it, Google Bombing.
What’s Google Bomb anyway?
According to the Wikipedia, “A Google bomb or Google wash is an attempt to influence the ranking of a given site in results returned by the Google search engine. Due to the way that Google’s PageRank algorithm works, a website will be ranked higher if the sites that link to that page all use consistent anchor text. Googlebomb is used both as a verb and a noun.”
Is there any problem with Google Bomb based on the definition above? Well, to let you know, I don’t find any problem with Google Bomb as long as you don’t abuse it. Google’s algo is design to be like that. And since we want to top the SERP with certain anchor texts, then we are forced to employ some Google Bombing trick. However, we need to put some limitation on it.
So, what’s the lessons we should learn from John Chow’s Google Bombing activities?
If you are also using John Chow’s way of marketing links (Review Me Challenge) consider the following:
(1) Let your review-me challenge participants use different anchor text when linking to your blog. John Chow choosed the “Make Money Online” anchor text, but it should not be alone. You can tell your participants to use different anchor texts like:
- Make Money Online
- Make Money on the Internet
- Online Making Money
- Easy Money Online
- Web Easiest Money Making
- Gain Dollars from the Internet
The very purpose of it is to avoid Google’s detection of what you’re doing. However, I am not really usre how effective is this trick.
(2) The anchor text and the linked page should be related. If you are using the anchor text “Make Money Online” then it should be linking to an article in your blog which talks about Making Money Online.
(3) If possible limit users who will link to your blog with one certain anchor text. When Google detected John Chow’s Google-Bombing, John Chow already received almost 1,000 links using the “Make Money Online” as anchor texts.
(4) Don’t depend on the traffic brought by Google. This is the main reason why John Chow is still making tons of traffic after being penalized by Google. If his blog is depending too much with Google, then by now, John Chow’s blog is already dead.

I remember one Google Bombing that involved the official site of the President, it was extremely funny but it became too serious after some time.

We’ll as far as I can remember, john chow doesn’t really care of whatever the results it may have because as he mentioned before he is just using it for a case study. Good for us because we are learning from his experience.

True, don’t depend on Google traffic… but he also bit the hand the fed him. Google is huge… Getting kicked off is a huge loss.
One really shouldn’t be too greedy in life.

[...] If you haven’t notice yet that Text Link Ads is not already on any of the Google SERP for “Text Link Ads” search anchor-texts, then I am telling you now about this. Based on my observation and research, Text Link Ads was dropped from Google SERP soon after John Chow’s fate. [...]

His site seems to be down. Maybe Google should hire Mr. Chow if he made millions by manipulation their system which was supposedly designed by the smartest people on the earth.
