This post has nothing to do with the technology when it’s at the hands of Pinoys. It’s actually a review I promised to the blog, Technology At Hand.

About the Blog

The “Technology At Hand” blog is another Pinoy blog on technology and related subjects which is blogged by RexTed. It’s currently hosted by Blogspot.Com and is using the subdomain of the Blogspot.Com.

I couldn’t tell when did this blog has started because RexTed decided not to display the monthly archive of this blog. Actually, hiding the monthly archive is the best way to do epecially if your blog is still young, or if you are hiding something just like what I did on my blog. Alexa’s record said that this blog started on the year 1999, but I guessed that’s not the blog’s start but of the Blogspot.Com.

As of the time of writing this review, Google has indexed more or less 300 pages of this blog. Google recorded 51 backlink from other blogs and websites which mostly came from his other blogs. However, if you’ll check the Alexa’s record, you’ll notice that this blog has thousands of backlinks. But of course that’s not the backlinks of this blog but of the blogspot.com.

Currently, the blog is ranked 356,000+ according to the Alexa ranking which means, only few visitors have visited this blog. It might be because the blog is new or the blogger of this blog failed to market this blog into the blogosphere or to the internet as a whole. However, the blog managed to gain 403 unique backlinks from other blogs, as revealed by Technorati which is somewhat better compared to what my blog got.

With regards to its monetization, RexTed uses Adsense, Adbrite, Bidvertiser’s ads as the means of monetizing the blog. As of this writing this post, I think, he only earned few dollars from it through Adsense. Well, it’s not really bad for the new blog. However, if your blog aged one year already, I think, earning few cents in one month is already a worst thing.

Blog’s SEO and Recommendation

Judging by what the blog looks, I can say that RexTed is much knowledgeable on SEO than me. He managed to interlink his posts which are identified as Most Visited Posts, Excel Related Posts andMoney Related Posts which can be found at the sidebar of the blog. It’s not just for your blog’s SEO but it’s also a good way of promoting your posts to your visitors, especially those who accidentally stumble upon your blog. However, I want to tell him that the Most Visited Posts and Excel Related Posts showed twice on the sidebar.

In general, the blog is satisfactory. But what got my attention is its host and domain which are all hosted by blogspot.com.

To let you know, there are tons of disadvantage if your blog is hosted by Blogspot.Com. It might be good if you’re just blogging without aiming for something better like optimized monetization, branding, etc. But it’s not really the case, because based on RexTed’s account, he’s also expecting to earn much from this blog.

I think, I need to remind you that there are advertisement brokers (third party ad services) which do not accept blogspot hosted blog to join into their network. So, it will be your loss if you want to join them since your request will just be rejected.

There are even some ranking sites, like the Pinoy Top Blogs of Yuga that automatically suspend blogs using subdomains.

In other words, having your blog hosted by your own with its own domain is really better than using those free ones. I know that you’ll spend money for these but that’s business. However, if you’ll just work hard for the progress and success of your blog, then I know you’ll get much from the few dollars you spent for your hosts and domains.
