FirefoxA security issue was raised about the latest release of the Mozilla’s Firefox browsers and is now currently examined by Mozilla.

We are currently investigating an issue on Windows XP, where some urls for “web” protocols that contain %00 launch the wrong handler and appear to be able to launch local programs, with limited argument passing.

To understand the issue, Dan Goodin explains:

The vulnerability resides in the way Firefox handles uniform resource identifiers, the protocols that allow the browser to access software and other resources located on a PC. The browser fails to properly vet at least five different URIs, a flaw that could allow an attacker to install malware on a PC simply by convincing a victim to click on a doctored link.

Currently, the impact of the issue to its users is still unknown. They are now currently fixing any bugs.
