“Do Follow”ing Your Blog

Updates via email... Enter your email address:

Just like what I said on my yesterday’s post, “You Comment and I will Follow Your Links“, disabling the “NOFOLLOW” feature of the comment’s links is subject to abuses by SEO and other bloggers who wants to earn links from the “Do Follow” blogs.

Forget the professional spammers because even if blogs do enable the “No Follow” feature, still they will drop their spammy comments, not to gain links but to gain traffic. And in the first place, those spammy comments are automatically blocked, banned, or trash by the Akismet or any anti-spam Wordpress plugins.

Spend More Time Moderating Comments

And because of these abuses, you will be forced to do either of the following:

  1. Set your blog in a way that all comments should be moderated by you first.
  2. Let all comments to be published soon after the commentator send his comment. Moderate them afterward.

In my case, I am doing the number 2. Actually, nothing has changed even if I already made my blog a “Do Follow” one because since the start of this blog, I already set  it to automatically publish the comments of the commentators. But during my internet sessions, I check for their comments and the inputed URL. I always make sure that comments drop are not spam nor have links linking to the unacceptable sites. Again, when I say, unacceptable sites, I am actually referring to porn, gambling and spammy sites.

Why Should You Moderate Them?

There are times that I feel lazy moderating or checking all the comments posted on my blogs.  I almost reject the idea of moderating them, but I just can’t do it because I don’t want my blog will be used by pornmasters and gamblinglords in promoting their businesses.

Actually, I can let my fellow bloggers post spam comments like, “Hi, Nice Site” and similar comments, but for give-and-take reason, I recommend that commentators should post relevant comments. I said give-and-take because I am giving you free links back to your blog through your comments, so let me benefit from your comments too by posting comments that is relevant to what I was saying on my post.

What really is the reason why you turned your blog into “Do Follow” one?

I want to thank Angel for asking this question to me.

Well. I want to tell you that the “No Follow” inserted into the <a> tags on the comment section of this blog failed to stop the spams. Yes! by “No Follow”ing your comment doesn’t really stop the spams. What stop (don’t totally) the spam from showing up on this blog is the Akismet plugin that I installed into the Wordpress engine.

And because of this, I realized that I can use the links at the Comment section in giving credit to all my commentators who shared their ideas by commenting the posts I wrote. I don’t paid them to comment but they do comment. So, in order to give thanks to what they did, valid link back to their blogs is the best thing to do.

Just like what I said above, it’s a give-and-take system. Share your idea and I will link back to your blog. On this way, my relation to my fellow bloggers will be enhanced. Thus, finding more friends from the bloggosphere.

Moreover, “nofollow” links are counted by Google as well as ordinary links. This can be easily proven inside Google Sitemaps where you can check links poitning to your pages (and sites, of course).

    BTW, “nice site” :D .
