I was in my hometown (San Agustin, Surigao del Sur) when I heard the news about the arrest (…arrest or not arrest?) of the blogger behind the “Boy Bastos” blog, Mark Verzo. According to the report, it was Senator Loren Legarda, the author behind the Anti-Computer Pornography Bill, who accused Boy Bastos of pornography (calling it as the premier bastos portal of the Philippines).
Sen. Loren Legarda said the website boybastos.com provides Internet users, including minors, free and unrestricted access to the largest online accumulation of “extremely” hardcore pornographic materials of Filipino women and girls.
The NBI (their attention was called by Legarda), then armed with “Search Warrant” confiscated Mark’s computer and even brought Mark along with them (for questioning? maybe). However, they didn’t find anything from the confiscated computer in the fact that “Boy Bastos” website is hosted by a hosting company from the US.
Accused of pornography? Well, it’s a question that everybody asked as they heard about the news. The “Boy Bastos” is not really a porn site (according to them). However, it contains links to real porn sites.
To let you know, one of our visitors recently posted a comment that linked back to “Boy Bastos” site. I checked the site and I found it porny. Just like what other said, the site is not really a porn site but it looks like porny (Porny is my own term that refers to a thing that looks similar to porn sites). And I don’t really want to link back to porny blogs or sites, so I deleted the comment.
By the way, “A Bugged Life” clarified that the “Boy Bastos” site is not really charged of pornography but of “potential human trafficking”.
What’s the lesson from this?
It might be true that tons of Pinoy are “Boy Bastos” and are really interested in sexy stories, pics and video. You can turn them into regular traffic and into real money too. But creating a porny or real porn sites is too risky.
If you can’t stop yourself in creating porny sites like “Boy Bastos”, at least do some precautions. You can follow Yuga’s advice to avoid “Boy Bastos” treatment.
