Generating Much Traffic, Change of Niche

A fellow Filipino blogger recently emailed me this:

I am certainly amazed on how much traffic you’re generating on your site and It really serves as an inspiration to me. I just want to ask on how you were able to do that? do you think it is possible to generate much traffic with the niche that I am starting on my humble site? or should I go on and switch to a different niche?

I often mention the traffic of this blog on my posts, especially those posts that deal about blog’s traffic. I don’t know if he read those posts or he just personally checked the traffic of this blog through the traffic stats posted on the sidebar. Then with the data he got, he then asked me:

  1. Is it possible that my blog can generate much traffic?
  2. Should I go on and switch to a different niche?

Possibility to generate traffic

First, I want to tell you that the possibility of generating traffic depends on your blog’s standing in the blogosphere. What I really mean is your blog’s popularity in terms of SEO, Social Media, or even in personal networking.

You might be blogging in a well-traffic niche, if you blog’s SEO is bad, then your blog will never gain much traffic from the search engines.

To let you know, 90% of my blog’s traffic are coming from the search engines and most of them are searching for a non-niche related contents of this blog. This blog has only few regular visitors, which also means that only few visitors are coming into this blog in search for the information that are related to the niche of this blog.

So, what did I do to gain non-niche traffic? Actually, I employed several tricks just to gain traffic for this blog even if those traffic are not related to my niche.

  1. Post irrelevant content. If your blog is about Computer and Internet, then why not post about ShowBiz, Popular Products or Popular Events. These 3 niches are few of the high-traffic niches available on the blogosphere. But of course when posting this non-relevant articles, you need to be creative so that your niche-related visitors will not be annoyed of these kind of posts.
  2. Make use of the porn-related traffic. There are millions of users who are searching for pornsss and sexxxy contents on the web, then why not take advantage of them. I am not telling you to create a porn website nor a porny site just like what Mark did. I am telling you to take advantage of the porn-related traffic by writing articles about pornsss but not to promote pornssss. Consider my experiment-posts: Pinay Sex Video, Free Pinay Sex, Pinay Teen Sex, and Naruto Porn Hentai.
  3. Comment on Blogs. In my recent schedule of blogging, 5 hours of it are for blog-hopping and commenting. Remember that commenting on blogs is one way of inviting the blog’s owner and its visitors to visit your blog too, especially if you posted an interesting comment.

I think, you can employ the same technique into your blog while you’re still building niche-related traffic.

Switch to different niche

If you have enough knowledge that is related to your blog’s niche, then go on blogging on that niche. You don’t have to change your niche as long as you can still write content about that niche. Remember that one of the important ingredients for a successful blogging is your knowledge, along with your passion to blog.

However, if you think, you started a wrong niche by considering your knowledge and passion, then you need to change immediately your niche. Just like what I said, blog on the niche wherein you are knowledgeable with.

Hmm would changing your niche or present blog niche would mean a new blog will have to be made? or the same blog can still be used? :D

I think you can have it on the same blog, like what Mr. Laplana says, irrelevant post can make a difference as it is driving targeted traffic as well.

tip number 2 is good for generating traffic. problema lang, hindi masyado relevant yung ads, mababa yung CTR :) your visitor is looking for prons, and most Google Ads don’t have prons in it.

well, you have two options on what to do when changing your niche:

    1. if your blog is using your name as your domain just like my blog, then you can just change the title of your blog.

    2. if your blog uses a domain that is related to the niche you are blogging, then it might be good to create new blog with new domain that will be related to the niche you’re planning to blog with.

Now, with regards to porrnnnss post…. it is true that there are terms related to sexxxx, underageee, and porrns which trigger Adsense to hide their ads. You also have 2 options on what to do:

    1. when mentioning sexxx, pornsss, or any terms related to these, make sure to change the spelling just like what I did on this comment.

    2. you can spell out correctly those terms and let Adsense hide their ads. However, make sure that the traffic on that post will be redirected to some relevant posts by enumerating your recent posts, popular posts or interesting posts. Check my post on Naruto Hentai and notice what I did.

I still think that patience and motivation will play key roles in niche marketing. As long as you stick to it, learn the ropes surrounding your niche and really focus on it, you will eventually get the results that you want.

    Interesting post

I am into niche markets and have a few niche specific blogs. My philosophy is a little different fom yours. I aim to attract targetted traffic to my blogs. The traffic that comes back again and again because they are specifically interested in my content

Not sure that non niche traffic converts well but i am open to your correction on this

if i am right that they, i.e non niche traffic, do not convert well, is there really any benefit in making the effort to get them t all?

The same amount of effort could result in targetted traffic to the niche blog
