On March 2006 March 2005, my fiancee finished her Bachelor in Elementary Education (at Tomas Oppus Normal College - Southern Leyte) and passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers on October 2005. Then on November 2005, she received a job order from a Local Government Unit in Surigao del Sur to teach the pre-elementary pupils. She tried to enter the Department of Education through the ranking procedure but failed for 2 times.

I know, that getting a position from the Department of Education is quite hard especially that there are hundreds of thousands of new professional teachers who are being added to the existing number every year, and the vacant position at the Department of Education is just few.

Because of this, I always convince her to rather forget her profession being a teacher and start blogging now. She should realize that the profession being a teacher is not really a profession but a vocation.

To let you know, a devout teacher will never became rich. That’s what I realized upon looking at my father and mother who were both Elementary teachers. “We live by debt and die with debt.

And what will you expect from being a teacher? You’ll receive a PhP10,00 monthly salary, 1/8 of it will be deducted for the insurance and other contribution, and then another part of it will be spent for the classroom. And then if there will be visitors (such as Superintendent, Supervisors or whoever) they need to share few hundreds of Pesos for the preparation. Yes! There are lots of things the teachers should spend aside from the expenses of their families.

What if she will blog?

Well, blogging is hard only at the start, especially if you don’t have yet a well-traffic blog or websites and haven’t yet established online friends.

But I think, my fiancee will not experience the same thing that I experienced before because soon as she will start her new blog, I will try my best to drive traffic from my existing blogs to her new blog.

Building up the standing of her blog might be hard for the early days of its existence considering that she’s new to the blogosphere. But then with the help of my existing blogs, I can help her new blog attain high ranking in terms of PR and other important ranking stats.

And by the time her new blog caters more or less 100 daily visitors, money will start to flow in through her blog. Last year, when this blog got the 100 mark of daily visitors, it started to earn $3 per day or $90 per month. And $90 per month is already good for the beginners, isn’t it?

So, if I will be the one to decide what to do (whether to continue her professions as professional teacher or to blog), I will choose to blog for life, because blogging will not only give us the chance to become rich but give us the opportunity to become popular.

What about her thoughts? She probably has good reasons why she decided to be a teacher in the first place. She took the time and placed efforts to be a licensed teacher and now, you are going to urge her to be just a blogger instead? What about the lives that she might actually change if she pursues her teaching career? It is true that there is no money in teaching but hey, if there is the passion to do it then money would not matter as much.

sometimes life is not just about earning money or being popular… sometimes its about changing people’s lives, and the best way to do it still is through teaching. its a different “high” when you see children learn things from you.

Hi SEL. I’m a teacher and I blog at the same time. There are instances when I do think of blogging full-time- but then again, as the other commenters have said, there’s something “else” about the face-to-face interaction with students. At the very least, they do give me something to blog about hehe Being a teacher in a state university doesn’t pay well, yes, but it has its perks. Blogging is a good tool to augment income, I’m pretty sure. Maybe someday I’ll find the time and energy to juggle both. Who knows =]

teaching is pursued as a passionate vocation. you mentioned that. you’re aware of that. so why try to convince your lady to do otherwise?
you are a selfish oaf who’s insecure of your own financial prowess.. you’re preying on your fiancee- teacher’s talents and gifts, just to support you and you need to ‘get out of debt.’
seriously. get a life. and stop manipulating your lady, you selfish dumbass.
