Last Wednesday, November 7, 2007, I went to the RCPI office here in Maasin City to claim my Adsense earning. I didn’t claim it immediately on the day the payment information was posted on my Adsense account because I was with my fiancee in Hinunangan (Southern Leyte, Philippines) since November 2, 2007, then we went to Marihatag (Surigao del sur) on November 5, 2007 with the Honda XRM I bought through my blog-earnings.
I brought with me the following:
- My Driver License
- My Postal ID
- The Money Transfer Control Number
- The Sender and Address as stated at the Adsense payment history page.
- The exact amount of money sent by Google.
After filling up the form, I presented it to the teller along with my 2 IDs. However, the teller got my driver license only.
While waiting for my turn, I was thinking what currency should I want to receive the payment, and considered these options:
- If the Dollar rate of the Western Union is higher than the rate of the Metrobank (where I got my ATM account), then I will choose to receive the payment in Peso.
- Otherwise, it is better to receive the payment in Dollar.
But I failed to ask the Metrobank personnel about their current exchange rate and even failed to check their website. However, a revelation of one of the Filipino bloggers (I forgot what blog is it and who is the blogger) is still clear in my head that the exchange rate of Western Union is lower compared to a bank’s rate. So, I decided to receive the money in Dollar.
After receiving the money, I immediately went to the Metrobank. My bank account is in Peso so I need to deposit this in Peso too. But what embarrassed me is the fact that Western Union rate is higher compared to Metrobank’s rate. Western Union offered 43.+ Peso per Dollar while Metrobank offered 42.+.
So next time before claiming the money transfer, I will inquire first for the Metrobank’s rate and compare it to that of the Western Union.
Well, I know that the difference is just small. But that few hundreds of difference is still money and I really need that.
By the way, this post is inspired by Macuha’s post, My Western Union Experience, and I want to make it clear that choosing to receive your Google Adsense via the Western Union Quick Cash is really free of charge. So, take advantage of it while it’s free.

Yeah, claiming in peso is a better option. Especially now that the dollar is depreciating.

Receiving Google adsense income thru WU is another option, but I prefer receiving mine in checks so I won’t be ‘tempted’ to spend my earning right away. I deposited my checks received from Google to my US dollar accounts and withdraw only as the need arises. But geeee.. the dollar rate is going down - that is the downside of the situation. The good side of it is shopping online is even better coz the items bought in $ are cheaper now! well, it just depend on how you see the brighter side of things.

well good to know that someone from my region, region 8, is doing well on the net and what is even better is that you are based in leyte! you’re more amazing than abe olandres!
i just stumbled upon your blog and i’m hooked…nice job..
about your topic, i also received my adsense on WU 2 times na, the first was in manila and the lady in the counter asked if i want it encashed in dollars or pesos but when i encashed last month’s earnings here in our region, the cebuana lhullier lady did not even bother to ask me and just handed to me the PESO equivalent. i would have protested if only i was in a hurry and figured what the heck, baka ilang daan lang ang difference, but still di ba, pangload na rin yun.., so is this a common practice in the provinces for cebuana lhullier?

wow! I am glad that Boy is here. But am still wondering if it’s really boy or just a fake boy. anyway, thanks for dropping by.
By the way, hindi po ako komportable sa cebuana L that’s why I really look for RCPI. parang secured ako don kahit sa place lang nila.
