One of your aim as blogger is to show your authority on the subject you are talking about so that your readers will believe and trust your ideas contained in your blog-posts. But you can only do it if you are knowledgeable enough on the subject you are talking about.

Normally, a medical doctor can show his authority on the things related to medicine and sickness. A math teacher can talk a lot of things about mathematics. A very professional driver can teach you the secrets on safe and defensive driving. An electrical engineer knows a lot of things about electricity.

However, this doesn’t mean that a blogger like you can’t talk about medicine and sickness just because you are not a doctor, or about mathematics just because you are not a specialist on mathematics, or about safe and defensive driving just because you are not a driver, or about electricity just because you are not an electrical engineer. You can actually show your authority on the different subjects even if you are not mastering them. What you really need to do is to acquire the knowledge about the subject you want to talk about.

For example, if you are interested on the medical subject, then why not go to the library and read the books about medicines and sicknesses. If you can afford to buy the latest books about it, then buy the books that you think are useful so that you can be an authority of that subject.

Just recently, I received an email that goes:

Good day!

I noticed that you are answering many questions at the Yahoo! Answers regarding parenting, relationship and related affairs, and I found them very informative and interesting. In fact some of your answers are voted as the best answers on the questions you answered.

What really wonders me is your background. I learned from your About page that you are a graduate of Electrical Engineering course in one of the colleges in the Philippines. But then you are passionate in answering questions about parenting, relationship and other related subjects including sex and pregnancy.

If you don’t mind, are you a psychologist, guidance counselor or a doctor?

It is true that I am really passionate on the subjects stated on that email. In fact during my free time and when I am with the group of young adults, I usually talk about those things. Some teens actually asked me about the secrets on a successful relationship. There are some also who wants to talk to me about the recent political issues in the Philippines. However, most of the time, I talk about religion.

And just like what I said above, all the things that I told them, I wrote on my answers at the Yahoo! Answers are all based on the knowledge I got through reading.

In other words, by just reading you can be an expert and show your authority on the subject.
