The Foundation Rock on Matthew 16:18
On my previous post, “The Rock on Matthew 16:18,” I wrote about the reasons why I am not convinced on Mr. Rico Morales claims that Peter is the foundation of the Church just because Christ, in Matthew 16:18, said, “…on this rock, I will build my church.”
If you’ll read the verse, obviously, Christ, in Matthew 16:18, is not actually saying that Peter was the Rock where the church of Christ would be built. Christ didn’t say that “…upon you (Peter), the rock, I will build my Church…”, but He simply said, “…on this rock, I will build my church…” Simon was called Peter which means rock or stone but He was not the Rock that Christ pointed as the foundation of His church. Rico Morales and the likes immediately concluded that the rock which is the foundation of the church of Christ is Peter even without verifying it from the real Apostle Peter.
Well, I am not surprised if lots of people interpret the said verse the way Mr. Rico Morales and the likes interpret it. The real Apostle Peter knew that people who are ignorant of the truth distort the scriptures.
15Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. 16He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction. (II Peter 3:15-16, NIV)
Mr. Rico Morales and the likes are not witnesses of the event when Christ spoke these words in front of Peter. But then they tried to interpret the verse using their own wisdom as if they witnessed how Christ spoke these words to Peter. So, why should I believe him or them? I rather believe the teachings of the real Peter who really witnessed how Christ said those words. And the real Apostle Peter taught that it was not him who was made the foundation of the church of Christ but Christ Himself.
“6For in Scripture it says:
1See, I lay a stone in Zion,
a chosen and precious cornerstone,
and the one who trusts in him
will never be put to shame.’ 7Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe,
‘The stone the builders rejected
has become the capstone,’” (I Peter 2:6-7, NIV)
Mr. Rico Morales and the likes are ignorant of the truth that the church of Christ is built up of living stones, just like the real Peter had taught.
“you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. (I Peter 2:5, NIV)”
And beneath these stones is Christ, the real foundation, not Peter.
11He is
” ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the capstone 12Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:11-12, NIV)
To Mr. Rico Morales, if you are reading this article, can you please show me the authority you are using to contradict the teachings of the real Apostle Peter? Are you given by God the authority to contradict the truth written on the scriptures?
