Christ is the Cornerstone, Peter is the Foundation?

In my previous post, “The Foundation Rock on Matthew 16:18,” I told you that Mr. Rico Morales and the likes interpreted the verse, Matthew 16:18, as if they witnessed how Christ spoke the words, “… you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build my church…

Mr. Rico Morales read that article and he responded through email.

On his response, he showed me a lot of explanation on how he understand the verse and criticized me that I am idiot on English grammar. He even gave me his own meaning on every sentence of the verse he quoted as if he is the writer of the book of Matthew.

Well, it’s fine for me even if Mr. Morales and the likes will call me idiot on grammar or whatever earthly wisdom. Earthly wisdom is important but it’s not the most important thing for me, but the heavenly wisdom… the wisdom from God. That’s the reason why I don’t depend on my intelligence when reading the Holy Bible. I always consider every verse on the Bible if there’s something that I wanted to be clarified.

Mr. Rico Morales, I think, forgot what the real Apostle Peter said in his second book in the Bible (II Peter 1:20):

Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. (NIV)

I know he read this verse several times, yet he’s interpreting the verses he read using his own wisdom. That is the reason why he’s lead to distort the truth without hesitating to contradict the truth revealed by the real Apostle Peter.

And just like what I told you on my previous post, I am not surprised if Mr. Rico Morales and the likes had been led to distort the truth written on the Bible because the real Apostle Peter wrote this:

16He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction. (II Peter 3:16, NIV)

Back to the verse, Matthew 16:18, we’ll notice that Christ called Simon Peter, and He also mentioned a rock where His own church should be built. Read the quoted verse below:

18And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. (NIV)

And just like what I told you on my old post, “The Rock foundation  of the Church on Matthew 16:18,” there are two different interpretations on the words that Christ spoke, “…And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church…” (1)The first interpretation is: The rock where the church of Christ should be built is Simon because his name was called Peter. (2)The second interpretation is: Although Simon’s name was called Peter, but the rock which Christ referred to where His own church should be build is Christ himself because He is the rock.

Now, the problem is which of these two different interpretations is correct? This time, the righteous reader of the Bible should not use his own wisdom in deciding what interpretation should be used. He should verify it by considering other verses of the Bible.

Since, the person whom Christ spoke these words was the real Apostle Peter, then let us verify it from Apostle Peter himself. And I already talked about it on my previous posts, but I will tell you again here, that the foundation of the church of Christ, according to Apostle Peter, is Christ Himself, in contrast to what Mr. Rico Morales believed:

“6For in Scripture it says:
1See, I lay a stone in Zion,
a chosen and precious cornerstone,
and the one who trusts in him
will never be put to shame.’ 7Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe,
‘The stone the builders rejected
has become the capstone,’” (I Peter 2:6-7, NIV)

But on this verse, Christ was referred to be the cornerstone. Is cornerstone different to the foundation? I will not answer it by my own wisdom because I don’t want to distort the truth. So, I will let Apostle Paul to answer, whether Christ as cornerstone is different to when saying that Christ is the foundation. This is what Apostle Paul had written:

For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. (I Corinthians 3:11, NIV)

Apostle Peter on his book referred Christ as the cornerstone, while Apostle Paul referred Christ as the foundation. These simply mean that, cornerstone and foundation are just synonymous.

So, whom should I believe, Mr. Rico Morales and the likes or the real Apostle Peter and the real Apostle Paul?

Well, I have no reason to believe Mr. Rico Morales and the likes because they don’t witnessed Christ and the building of the church of Christ. But the true Christians should believe the real Apostle Peter and the other Apostles because they’re the apostles of Christ and the real witnesses when Christ built His own church.
