Learn To Accept Criticism
JFlores sent me his comment on my post Criticism Helps Me grow. The comment goes:
grabe!!! if i will be in your situation Mr. SELaplana i feel terribly “ouch!!!”. it is really a “foul” on my part to be criticized by whoever especially with regards to posting articles in a blog because you know, you did your VERY BEST just to come up with that kind of article– and here will come a strange person who will give a “foul comment” and a pieces of advise, which i am in doubt whether that is an advise or a way just to prove that that person (G.S) is fluent enough in English language or a stupid way to make people as his/her image with regards to “English”… but then, my thumbs to you Mr. SELaplana because you appreciated the comments of G.S and it helps you to grow….kung ako talaga? i won’t!! not because i possessed a high level of “id” or an ego but because of “INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES” which means, we have different way on how to accept things or any undertakings or it can be applied to these words “what is good to you, may not be good to others”
that’s why based on the comments of G.S i realized “individual differences” again because for Mr. SELaplana criticism is good, for me NOT!. Also for G.S another individual differences again because G.S is good in English and I’m NOT!..
Let’s face the fact that all of us, even G.S commit mistakes in using English Language, but what is good thing here is that… we can use english language, we can speak, read, learn and write english unlike other races. Imagine very well that English is not our native language or the first langauge we learn to speak nor write but then, we can still use them with very few lapses/mistakes. Instead of looking at others grammar why don’t you speak that you are proud that a FILIPINO like you can use, read, speak, learn and write English with a very limited/few mistakes. Criticism is good if it is CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM not a DESTRUCTIVE CRITICISM.
Important reminders, If you will look at others, just look at your self first… i’m amenable that i am not good enough in English because i know i committed mistakes upon writing this comments which is unintentionally done.
If you will look at others, just look at your self first…(look here..) i quoted some of the comments of G.S
“…choices of words too..” better if “choice of words” or you can write it as simple as DICTION.
“…DEMOGRAPHICS..” why you need to quote?.. to give emphasis…?
“Check your grammar and usage of words”… “check your grammar” will do because the words “usage of words” is incorporated to grammar.
Dealing Criticism
Everyone of us has his own way of dealing criticism whether it is constructive criticism or destructive criticism. And my way of dealing with it is by accepting it and use it as my guide in checking my weaknesses. I hope, Ma’am G.S. will not be offended by the comment of J.Flores. He’s only expressing what he feels if he’s the one who received the criticism.
You might wonder why I act like this. I mean, why I deal criticism like that.
Okay. I don’t want to offend anyone. I don’t want to embarrass you. Please read my thoughts with open minds.
1. The Mirror
Well, it’s the result of my realization on the fact that I couldn’t see who really I am without using a mirror. You need the mirror to look at your face, to check what is happening with your eyes, your skin, your nose or any part of your face. And that mirror is you. Yes! All of you who wasted your time just to read my post. You’re my mirror.
I want to thank all of you for sending me your comments, suggestions and criticism. You help me learn the things within me that should be checked and corrected.
2. Christ Teaching
And the real reason why I tried to accept any kind of criticism is because Christ has a teaching that His follower should consider his brethren or other people as more knowledgeable than his own. I forgot what verse in the Bible is that but that is the main thought of the verse.
Now, since other people are more knowledgeable than me, then I always consider what they say about me.
It might be true that they too got mistakes in writing article in English language. But their ability to immediately spot the mistakes of others is, I think, a proof that they have enough knowledge on that particular subject.
Thus
For us to avoid being offended or embarrassed, we better learn to accept the criticism made by others about us.

[...] Learn to Accept Criticism is a very good read. An article that is also based on Mr. Selaplana’s experience in blogging. [...]

Sometimes the criticism you accept are a bit harsh but you learn to cope with it. And you can use it to further improve yourself.
Very well written post however, I would recommend that you turn the No Follow off in your comment section.
Keep up the good work.
