Will You Celebrate Valentine’s Day?

Nobody asked me if I will celebrate Valentine’s day, but I want to talk about it here. On my December 2007 post, I answered the question why I don’t celebrate Christmas. And actually, the reason behind it is the same reason why I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s day is actually a Catholic feast to their saint Valentine. According to the history, there are three Valentines whose feast are celebrated every February 14:

Numerous early Christian martyrs were named Valentine. Until 1969, the Catholic Church formally recognized eleven Valentine’s Days. The Valentines honored on February 14 are:

* Valentine of Rome (Valentinus presb. m. Romae): a priest in Rome who suffered martyrdom about AD 269 and was buried on the Via Flaminia. His relics are at the Church of Saint Praxed in Rome. [5] and at Whitefriar Street Carmelite Church in Dublin, Ireland.

* Valentine of Terni (Valentinus ep. Interamnensis m. Romae): He became bishop of Interamna (modern Terni) about AD 197 and is said to have been killed during the persecution of Emperor Aurelian. He is also buried on the Via Flaminia, but in a different location than Valentine of Rome. His relics are at the Basilica of Saint Valentine in Terni (Basilica di San Valentino).

The Catholic Encyclopedia also speaks of a third saint named Valentine who was mentioned in early martyrologies under date of 14 February. He was martyred in Africa with a number of companions, but nothing more is known about him. (Wikipedia)

But during the early centuries, the feast to these Valentines were not associated with romance and love. It was only on the latter days that Saint Valentine’s day became associated to romantic love.

So, what really is the point why you don’t celebrate Valentine’s day?

I will tell you directly that the feasts honoring the so-called saints are just the invention of the Roman Catholic Church. We can’t find this in the Holy Bible. And besides, the doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church regarding Saints and their feasts are against the teachings of God, Christ, and the Apostle. I just hope that you’ll not be offended by this.

Forget about the feast of the saint, just celebrate the day of love and romance.

Well, showing our love to our loveones can be done every day even if it’s not the feast of the Catholic Saint Valentine. If you already have your own family, then why not set Sunday (if you’re too busy with other days) as your family day by giving them your quality time. And not only that, you can even show your love and care to your family by providing them all their needs (emotional, social, educational, financial, spiritual, moral….everything). You don’t have to wait for the February 14 or the Valentine’s day for you to show your love to your loveones.

Tama po kayo! andami po kayang di nasusunod sa bible. Isa dito ang first sa ten commmandments kahit ano man po yun reason kitang kita sa gawa nila that they are praising saints or other human beings just like the way they praise tha real GOD. Minsan nga mas binibigyan pansin pa sila kaysa ke JESUS. halimbawa sa Christmas mas hinahanap pa ng mga bata si Sant Claws.
