My Husband’s Woman - SBS TV Drama
Can a marriage survive after an affair? My Husband’s Woman explores the intimate, sometimes appalling, sometimes absurd, but always painful ordeal of women on both sides of the story behind an extramarital affair. Bae Jong Ok (Goodbye Solo, Lie) plays a typical homemaker whose perfect life comes crashing down when she learns that her husband is having an affair with her girlfriend. Offering perspectives from the other side of the coin is Kim Hee Ae (Precious Family, Snow Flower) who portrays “the other woman”. The second highest-rated drama in 2007 after only Jumong, My Husband’s Woman caused a massive media blitz not only for Kim Hee Ae’s hair-raising performance as the sexy temptress which evidently won her the Grand Prize at the 2007 Korean Drama Awards, but also for the drama’s no-nonsense style and provocativeness - all masterminded by one of Korea’s most celebrated drama screenwriter, Kim Soo Hyun.
Kim, known for her distinctive and exquisite dialogue, brings 40 years of experience as a screenwriter which includes earlier hits like Firework and Trap of Youth. In My Husband’s Woman, the affair is revealed from the get-go (at the end of the first episode); the drama then shifts focus to the affair’s aftermath and the psychological warfare that never seems to end. Also starring Kim Sang Joon (My Boss My Hero) as the indecisive husband and Lee Jong Won (The Golden Era of Daughters in Law) as Bae’s longtime schoolmate, the drama drips with pathos while offering valuable insights into the minds of the betrayed and the betrayer.
An unassuming housewife Ji Soo (Bae Jong Ok) leads a happy life with her college professor husband Joon Pyo (Kim Sang Joong) and their son. But trouble lurks when Ji Soo’s widowed friend Hwa Young (Kim Hee Ae) accompanies Ji Soo and her family on a family trip and secretly begins a love affair with Joon Pyo. One day, Ji Soo hosts a barbecue party at her house and invites Hwa Young and her sister Eun Soo. Besieged by passion, Hwa Young and Joon Pyo end up making out inside the kitchen, but soon get caught red-handed by Eun Soo. Shocked and sickened to her stomach, yet nervous about what her fragile sister might do if she ever finds out, Eun Soo threatens Hwa Young and Joon Pyo to bury the affair immediately. But the truth has a way of slipping out…
