PageRank and Page Rank

PageRank or PR

PageRank or PR is the trademark of Google. It’s the Google’s own method in measuring the popularity or importance of the webpage or a website which is represented by the PR value from 0 to 10.

It doesn’t actually have the relation to the ranking of a certain page on the Google SERP because there lots of lower PR blogs and websites that out ranked those blogs and websites that have higher PR rating.

In other words, PR is just  a way of differentiating several websites in terms of popularity.

For example: Blogs with PR of 5 is more popular than blogs with PR of 2. But it doesn’t mean that the blog with PR of 5 will be ranked higher compared to the blog with PR of 2.

It might be true that giving your blog the PR rating, Google consider the volume and the quality of backlinks your blog got. And that is the same to when ranking at the SERP. The only difference is that in ranking the blogs at the SERP, Google consider another thing, that is, the “Anchor Text” used in linking back to your blog.

To make it clearer, consider this:

Blog A:

  1. Total Backlinks = 1000
  2. Number of backlinks with anchor text “Make Money Online by Blogging” = 50
  3. Blog’s PR = 5

Blog B:

  1. Total Backlinks = 500
  2. Number of backlinks with anchor text “Make Money Online by Blogging” = 300
  3. Blog’s PR = 2

From that data, we can say that Blog is more popular compared to Blog B considering its total backlinks which resulted to its PR rating. However, if you’ll consider its rank in the SERP when searching for the term “Make Money Online by Blogging”, Blog B ranks higher compared to the Blog B considering the number of backlinks using the anchor text “Make Money by Blogging”.

Page Rank or Rank at the SERP

Page rank or page rank (with small letters and are separated by space) is the rank of a certain webpage in a particular search result pages.

I already explained above the relation of PR to the page ranking at the SERP.
