I honestly wanted a different ending for El Fili. :) The excommunication and the supposed retraction are understandable. Rizal did not die for his religious faith or conviction. But he is still our National Hero. He died for his political stand, which opened up the eyes of many. The retraction letter was intended really so that Josephine and Rizal can marry each other. The letter according to handwriting specialists is really of Rizal's except for the signature. you said it right that until today it is still an issue weather Rizal really retracted or not but I think the priests are just mad at Rizal so they made up all the tsismis. I dare say na i can not be too proud of my religion kasi nga I cannot always act what it teaches. But then dami ko nakita ibang new religions di naniniwala sa saints o crucifixes o hate nila statues pero still the same:they might hate dogmas of catholic pero as i witness some hard core converts aren't any better-especially here abroad they still do adultery, worship material things leading double life. So how can I leave a catholic faith when those ex-catholic i saw and work with are worst? Well, I’m a catholic and this is thought provoking.
