USA Election vs Philippine Election
Finally, the USA has her new President, Barack Obama. He’s the first American-African president of the USA and the first (just I thought) candidate for President of the USA who used the internet technology as part of his political campaign. And if I am not mistaken (correct me if I’m wrong), he’s the Presidentiable of the USA who has the highest collection of funds for his campaign. And some say (I don’t know if it’s right) that Barack Obama is the first President of the USA who lived his early lives outside the USA.
There’s a lot of things that people realized about the new President of the USA. But that’s not what my real really is my focus on this post. I really want to let you know the big difference between the election in the USA and the election here in the Philippines that I realized while following the election of the USA. Like:
- In the USA, the supporters of the Presidential candidate donate money for his expenses during the campaign. In the Philippines, the supporters of the candidate collect money from the candidate.
- In the USA, only two candidates run for President. In the Philippines, everybody run for President.
- In the USA, the Presidential candidates debate on their plans, and strategy on what to do for the good of their country. In the Philippines, Presidential candidates debate on the personality of each of the candidates.
- In the USA, the Presidential candidate who lost the election concedes. In the Philippines, the loser complains that he was cheated on the election.
- In the USA, the losers support the program of the elected candidates. In the Philippines, the losers pull down the elected candidates and grab their power.
- In the USA, the elected officials work hard for the good of the country. In the Philippines, the elected officials (including the appointed officials) work hard for the good of their own pockets.
- (Please send (by replying this email) or post at our comment section your thoughts if you have something to add to this list)
Update:
I was recently informed by my wife that her classmate told her that the final Presidential Candidate of the recent US Election (2008) were actually 13. I searched the internet about it and I found 6 candidates:
- John McCain – Republican Party
- Barack Obama – Democratic Party
- Bob Barr – Libertarian Party
- Chuck Baldwin – Constitution Party
- Cynthia McKinney – Green Party
- Ralph Nader – Independent
In other words, my number 2 statement is wrong (US Election vs Philippines Election).

In the USA, Obama used the Internet to help him with his campaign (Facebook, youtube, sms subscription, iphone application, seo on website). I wonder which candidate will do the same on 2010 presidential elections. Hehe
Actually, I accidentally visited a blog campaigning for Mar Roxas for President in 2010. I forgot the address of that blog.
thank u for the mail dude.. its really really useful.. and well, how can i disagree to that?its vry very obvious.. awesome site by the way..nice blogs…
aw. the truth hurts. kahit na there are some na hindi naman ganun eh pati sila nadadamay na rin sa bad image ng elections dito sa pinas.
I know the article meant to be sarcastic, but some minor additions as follows:
1. There are actually three other minor candidates in the list of my official ballot, besides Obama and McCain
2. Might mention that election is by electoral votes
3. Election here in CA is not only for national but also local propositions. The famous one is Prop 8.( Gay Marriage). There are still people in the streets staying in the middle of the night chanting Yes or NO! on Proposition 8, three days after it was defeated by a margin of 52% (yes)( traditional) to 48(no)( in CA constitution).
.
yet we come together in service of commmon good once the
voting is done. thats one difference. america is strong
resilient as a nation.
it is clear that to navigate the path through the current difficulties and to regain some momentumin the world economy, the biggest economies need to be working
together.interest in the fiscal stimulous varies from country to counry.there are ongoing conversations about who plan what and when.hopefully it will to some degree of coordination.
Hi, I know it’s off topic here but can you please help me out. I want to send something to the Barangay Captain of Ichon. I am not sure of her full name. Can you help? Many thanks.
About US elections though: we are a nation who will usually stand behind and support our president to the world outside no matter our many serious differences internally. I say usually because many did not do this during the presidency of George W. Bush. That is unfortunate. Know, also, that nearly half ( 46.2%) the American people did not vote for President Elect Obama. These good American citizens also in good faith and conviction voted for the other candidate. That’s alot of people.
President Elect Obama strongly supports abortion at any time during pregnancy and he has promised his first act as president to sign into law FOCA ( Freedom of Choice Act: in USA people who are pro-abortion use the term Pro-Choice to describe themselves ) – legislation that will provide US government funding for all abortions and will end the many state laws that put some limits and restrictions and parental notification on abortion. President Elect Obama also strongly supports stem cell research on fetus’. His leadership and decisions for America on these very basic and critical moral foundations, will have a long term effect on our morals, on our children and grandchildren. Nearly 4,000 pre-born babies are killed in their mother’s wombs each day in the USA alone because our Supreme Court ( Roe v. Wade since about1964) permits abortion on demand. The Court is narrowly divided in favor of abortion. Justices are appointed here in the USA permanently with no retirement age, but 2 are quite old and likely to retire soon.
The new President Elect has said he will fill the likely Court vacancies, with justices who support current law, Roe v. Wade -abortion on demand. The other major candidate and his running mate were both 100% anti-abortion.
So, yes, we should throw all our support for each of our presidents as they seek in good conscience to lead of nation. And yes, we do so, even as we continue to seek internally a civil and honest way to influence our presidents, legislators, govenors and local officals to do what is right and oppose what is wrong.
In the USA, the result of the presidential election will be announced right after the election.
In the Philippines, you will know the result of the election before the votation.
Junith Malot, u might be referring to this site: http://marroxas2010.blogspot.com/
In the Phillippines, the law allows every filipino to run in any public office as long as he pass the requirements
provided by the law.
There are only 2 political parties in america. There are more than a dozen in the philippines.
Adelo: YOu mean to say there are only two MAJOR parties in America (There are other minor ones)
If I may add: In the USA the candidate who got the most votes is declared winner. In the Philippines, the one with more connections, more political clout, more money is declared the winner – even if he/she lost in the vote tally. He he.
You’re 100% correct, but let’s pray for our country’s political development and I believe that God can improve our country for the better. God Bless the Philippines
The first thing to do is to change first their selves so that they will know what changes for the country and the corruptions of every country.
Thanks for the information. I do agree with the article you have written.
Just to comment on item 2.
I don’t have direct access to this fact but i was informed by my Managing Director, who is an American, that there were more than 200 official candidates in this election. However, only 2 came from dominant parties. In fact, as an absentee voter, he voted for a candidate called Mitt (and am not even sure of the spelling). That’s probably why we only learn of 2 due to media coverage.. But the rest of your observations are generally true.
My personal belief is that change starts with me. I know cant change the culture in my immediate neighborhood, but i can influence the culture of my kids, my wife, and my house helper. The ripple effect will multiply slowly but it will surely. Just sharing my thoughts.
like so many of us we savor the phrase, and congratulate the winner, and celebrate
the occation. it is a momentous of occation. it is momentous for the generational change it heralds and geographic realingnment it reflects and the racial progress it acknowledge
and promise…the election is over…and its over . life moves on..president elect Obama
has my support . i did not vote for him…
Good day to everybody….especially to the people Republic of the Philippines… What I can say is .. The Philippines economy still down and we the filipinos are trying to help the government or step up the economy by supporting the government by giving a moral and political support to the government but our government were not interested to find the problem in every municipality, (local or distric) we have lot of people are unemployed because the government has no plan and program to enhance the filipino workers. Instead to help us and give a moral support to find a job, we are demoralized because of lot of training & courses to be taken before you get the job. As a poor filipinos, we cann’t afford to take this course or training because we don’t have enough money to pay the courses. Mrs President – please look forward and find the problems of all filipinos, and please conduct ramdom visit to all general & provincial hospital of all provinces. Lack of doctors, no medicines supply. As I observed, before a normal laborer can afford to buy 1 kilos of rice and 1 pc of noddle or egg. Now, 1/2 kilo or 1/4 kilo of rice only. The PPA bill in every month (electricity) need to stop this, this is an illegal deduction from the people, the Electricity office (Meralco, etc.) still deducting more money from poor people without consuming the electricity. For example : my bill is 1,500 pesos – the PPA charge is 400 to 450 pesos – it is not good…it is unfair or unlawful… we hope this kind of problem will pass directly to the Office of President Gloria Arroyo. Thank you and more power.
The case is of Phillipines not very different from the one in my country Tanzania and most of the African countries..
JUst to compare: in Tanzania and most of African countries it is obvious that when a candidate fail to get the poat would give a lot of complains ooh the election was not fair, ooh the results were delayed, ooh my people were rejected to vote, ooh the election comitee was in the side of the winning party and a lot of other complains.
However if you compare the system of election in US and the one of our countries you will learn a lot of differences which make each side to be at the extreme.
That is our countries at the extreme undemocratic while our fellows the extreme democracy.
There are a lot of factors which make me say so.
Some of them include
1)The leading party always win the election even by force example Kenya 2007/2008 election, Tanzania 2006 election,Zimbabwe election, and many other examples
2)The opposition is surpressed to make sure it doesnt criticise the government.
3)The leaders fix the electoral comission so that they ensure vistory for the ruling party
4)The votes which seem to be opposition’s get spoiled or stolen
5)A lot of governmemts money is used to cheat voters
6)The election results are delayed to make sure they get enough time to fix the results
I have a lt to say may be I will add later
Africa is for Affricans and only our freedom and democracy can make us not the most underdeveloped continent and the goalkeeper of grants
sana ma-implement na talaga yung automated election natin dito sa pilipinas. it’s time to upgrade na kasi sobrang bagal ng election results.
everybody is looking forward of the automated voting and counting process for the 2010 election here in the Philippines. However, some people are still feeling negative on this high tech election because cheaters could cheat the election easily as long as they have contacts inside the commission on election.
Actually, the clean and honest election this coming 2010 depends on us voters. Let’s just be honest and avoid molesting those candidates, and most of all, we should be vigilant.
help!!!any idea about the proposition why there’s no need of this…? “that constitution be amended to require voters to have secondary education…..”
