What is the Best Placement for Google Adsense?

Adsense Publishers, even if they’re not told about the things that I enumerated in my previous article on how to increase the Adsense ads CTR, the thought about the best placement for the Google Adsense is already in their minds. So, in their hopes of earning money from Google Adsense, they keep asking themselves, “What is the best placement for Google Adsense”.

There’s no other reasons why you need to find the best placement of Google Adsense in your blog. This is to increase the CTR of the Adsense ads.

If ever you are still wondering what CTR is, please read my article, “The Secret in Increasing the Google Adsense CTR“.

Best Placement

So you’ll ask me: where in my blog should the Google Adsense be placed or positioned so that visitors of my blog will visit the site advertised in Google Adsense?

FYI, the best spot in your blog for the Google Adsense is not the same spots or places where other bloggers put their own Google Adsense at their blogs.

If you’ll visit the blog of Macuha, the spots where his Google Adsense ads are placed are the best Google Adsense ads placement on his blog.

The same is true in Jehzlau’s blog. If you’ll compare how Jezhlau positioned his Google Adsense ads on his blog to the Google Adsense placement in Macuha’s blog, you’ll notice that the placements are not the same. But for Macuha and Jezhlau, those placements on their respective blogs is already the best placement for Google Adsense.

And take a look at my blog, this blog “SELaplana” and take note on how or where did I place the Google Adsense ads. And to tell you… it’s how Google Adsense should be displayed on this blog to maximize my income from Google Adsense.

In other words, the best placement for Google Adsense depends on the design and structure, and the content of your blog. It is only you who can identify the best spots for the Google Adsense.

However, most of the Google Adsense Publishers found out that the best spots are as illustrated on the image below:

Google Adsense Best Placement

1 – the most significant spot or the hottest spot, 4 – the least.

From that illustration, the spots numbered 1 and 2 are considered the best spots for Google Adsense. However, you still need to find which is the best among the best spots.

And how could you do that? Well, there is only one way to do that and it is by testing.

Finding the Best Spots

Before you begin testing for the best placement, consider first these things as suggested by many experienced Adsense Publishers:

  1. If the content of a certain page is a photo, place 1 Adsense Ads unit before the Photo and 1 after the photo.
  2. If the editorial content of a certain page is smaller in size, place 1 Adsense unit (medium to large rectangle) before the content but after the Content Title.
  3. If the editorial content of a certain page is longer, place 1 Adsense unit (medium to large rectangle) after the content.
  4. If the title of your editorial content is tricky or it suggests a list of things, place 1 Adsense unit (medim to large rectangle) below the title. But make sure that something is in between them like a small description or few comments about anything to avoid violating the Google Adsense TOS and Policies.

And here’s what you need to do in finding for the best placement.

  1. In every placement or spots that you want to test, create an ad unit and assign a channel for it.
  2. Test every ad unit in a placement for a uniform length of time. For example: In one placement, allow the Adsense ads to be live there for 1 week before testing the other spot… then another 1 week for that spot before trying another placement … so on.
  3. Focus your attention on the CTR of the ad.
  4. After you have done the test on the spots, pick the spots with high CTR.

  6. I agree with elmot blogger. Placing ads on a web site is a question of testing what is the best for that specific web site. Although there are general guidelines which should be considered, the best results, IMHO, can be achieved after several tests on a given web site. I’ve launched my price comparison web site in May 2009. I don’t have enough traffic to have an idea about the best ad placement. However, I woul appreciate any comments regarding the placement of ads on my price comparison website.
