Is the Drop of Your Blog’s PR Hurting You?
As fools celebrated their feasts on April 1, 2009, Google on the other hand was hurting lots of bloggers and webmasters for losing the PR (Page Rank) of their blogs and websites.
But should you get embarrassed if your blog’s PR dropped?
In my case, I don’t care if this blog’s PR5 (2007) dropped to PR2 (2008). And now the blog’s PR dropped again to PR0. And why should I be embarrassed if it doesn’t affect my blog’s income. I am not earning money from this blog through the Google PR rating. All my blogs are earning money from the traffic brought by the search engines.
Isn’t it the blog’s PR rating affects the actual page rank of the blog’s pages at the Google SERP?
If you’ll observe the Google search result, there are low PR blogs or pages that are ranked high up on the Google SERP. There are also high PR blogs or pages that are not listed on the top pages of the Google SERP.
In fact, even if the PR rating of this blog is already zero (0), it is still considered the authority especially if you’ll search Google using the keywords “selaplana”.
How did you know that your blog has the authority on certain googling?
If you’ll search the Google using the term “selaplana”, you’ll find out that this blog “Make Money Online by Blogging” is ranked number 1. And not only that, some internal pages are listed on the SERP too. Take a look at the screenshot below:
Who are those bloggers who are affected by the drop of PR?
Bloggers who are affected by the recent Google PR updates are:
- Bloggers who write sponsored blogposts. Most of the sponsored posts brokers accept blogs that have high PR rating and the price of every post depends on the PR rating of the blog. The higher PR means the higher price.
- Bloggers who are selling links for PR. There are blogs who joined the TLA networks and similar networks just to earn money from the links sold. And one of the bases in pricing a text link is the Google PR rating of the blog.
However, participating on these kind of making money online by blogging will also lead to the drop of your blog’s PR rating.
So, what should you do to get higher PR rating for your blog?
I think, you should not work hard for the increase of the PR rating of your blog. What you need to do is to work hard to get high page rank on the Google SERP because being ranked high on the SERP means more traffic will be brought into your blog. And just like what I am always telling you, … more traffic means more money because traffic is money.
So, what should you do to get high page rank on the SERP? It’s simple to say but hard to get it… Gain more backlinks to your articles or posts using the preferred “anchor text”.
Forget the PR rating but never forget gaining more backlinks to get the higher rank on the SERP.
PageRank vs Page Rank
You might wonder what’s the difference of PageRank and page rank.
Often times PageRank is written as Page Rank. Take note of the capitalization of the letter P and R.

I know that PR means Page Rank but I don’t know what is SERP. And how is PR directly related to that SERP or to the traffic? A link is highly appreciated.
SERP stands for Search Engine Result Pages. These are the pages of the list of the result when you search something.
PR stands for Page Rank. But Page Rank (first letter capitalized) is different to page rank (small letters). My differentiation here between page rank and Page Rank.
Can you tell me how to create that kind of search result, where there are set of links at the bottom of the Title and description.
Example (in your case):
My Adsense Income
Songs Lyrics
Making Money by Writing Reviews
Beach Resort
Dive Resort
Facbook
Mypace
Naruto Sasuke
Correct me if I’m wrong but was it done through SITEMAP, or sitemapping, or whatever you want to call it?
If your blog is considered by Google as the authority on a certain searches or googling, some pages of the your blog will be listed below your blog’s title. Google automatically get that links from the links of the pages of your blog. Often times, Google picked links among the site wide links from your blog.
I see. And this thing only works for the #1 spot right?
yes… it works only on the number 1 spot. but not all listed on the number 1 spot has this links… it only happens if your blog is considered by Google as an authority over that particular search.
Really?
How come “Google.com” doesn’t have any “Links” for the keyword “Google”?
Another example is “https://www.google.com/adsense” for the keyword “adsense”
I am also wondering why? Only Google can answer that.
Really?
How come “Google.com” doesn’t have any “Links” for the keyword “Google”?
the master don’t eat the dog food
that’s what I am thinking.
…otherwise, google’s poop will be…
Even high PR blogs should no longer bank on writing paid posts to monetize their sites. Mababa na din naman ang offer ng mga review companies kahit mataas ang PR mo.
PS Tuloy ang buhay pagkatapos ng PR drop heheheh
well, I experienced drop of PR twice. But while the PR of this blog drops I wonder why the income of it is increasing.
Google says: That’s your freakin’ reward for being a high-earner! LOL
hahaha, that’s why I don’t care if my blog’s PR dropped to 0 because I still earn much from this blog.
For example, year 2006 when my blog got the PR of 4 but its income at that time was just more or less $2 a day.
late 2007 when the blog got the PR of 5 and the income increased too.
Early 2008 when Google dropped its PR to 2. However, the income of it still increased.
Now, the PR was dropped to 0 but the income is still quite good.
$2? Hmmmm….
Your only “online income” source is through adsense right?
Well adsense is still good but if you really want to earn bigtime, you should try these things:
1.) Affiliate Marketing
2.) CPA w/ some Blackhat Tactics
3.) Parked Domain w/ Blackhat Tactics
4.) Sell your own stuff (digital products) online
It may take some time to get used to these F4 (not the boyband), but I call it Fab4. However, your efforts will be very very very very very very worth it, or should I say worth to the bank. Good luck!
nope.. i am not earning money through adsense only. i have lots of ways to earn money from CPC to CPM and CPA.
When I started this blog, I am already making money by selling products as an affiliate.
right now, my PR is not an issue. i have just started my new site and i don’t want this to be dependent in PR. as for my other blogs, well, i am mostly earning from sponsored reviews with fixed rate, so, PR is not an issue also.
good thing that you’re still earning money from sponsored reviews without having problems with the PR.
What matters most is that your site has been optimized well in your core keywords that best suits for your site and are commonly used by your target audience. This way, your site will gain an abundant amount of targeted traffic.
Speaking of PR, I hope you wouldn’t mind if I share this: =D
last year my site got PR1 and I was actually happy for that. But then after a month, it drops to 0. I was disappointed of course. And again, after almost 4 months of blogging, my site again has rank 1.
I was actually thinking of this so-called Google Sandbox. Could it be?
actually, i really don’t understand how Google Sandbox works.
I do think that PR only matters for blogs monetizing their blogs thru sponsired reviews or link blurbs. But as long as search engines continuously give traffic to my blog and gaining some income thru adsense, then I don’t care what my PR is. Unfortunately, my blog’s PR went to zero after only days of upgrade from PR1 to PR2. I don’t know why…
Other SEMarketer thought that Google has changed the algo of their PR system to counter those who play the PR in exchange of money.
But there are other marketers who think that what happened was a kind of penalty.
Ako PR1 na lang haha…
Making money with Adsense it’s becoming harder and harder. Couple of years ago, Adsense program was really hot
Nowdays, affiliate earnings are much more rewarding. More and more publishers go into CPA networks everyday. Adsense is paying penny per clicks .. Too bad .. I actually enjoyed it while it lasted.
A blog’s PR is still relevant but it all depends on your goal. If your goal is SEO-related, then it does matter, but if it’s otherwise, it should not be a big, anyway, PRs can be faked. It will matter if your blog is making money, then you not only need to have a consistent PR, but a good banking service as well.
You need a lot of high PR websites to do some profits with AdSenses.. Some time ago , it was way more easy to do money using AdSense
