Carl Justine, A Jaundice Baby

My baby and his mother are still in the hospital. My wife delivered our son through cesarean section (CS) last Friday at 2PM and has recovered and discharge from the hospital already. But my son, Carl Justine and a jaundice baby, is still taking the photo therapy.

Why in Cesarean Section?

Actually, we tried to escape from the CS way of delivering the baby because it’s expensive. Everyday since her 5th month of pregnancy, I brought her to a place where we could exercise. I imposed strict and proper diet for a pregnant. I was not exempted from these, that why I lost 10kgm of weight (from 90kgm down to 80kgm).

However, at 7AM of May 8, 2009, the baby had a bowel movement into the amniotic fluid. And it happened not only once but 4 times.

At 10PM, I decided and told the OB-Gyne that the CS should be done immediately. But since my wife was induced at 7AM, so the doctor set the time for CS delivery at 12Noon giving us the chance to avoid the CS if ever my wife’s cervix would dilate from 4cm to 9cm before 12Noon.

But 12Noon came and the cervix is still at 4cm dilation. So, we have no other choice but to undergo the CS delivery.

Jaundice Baby?

At 2PM of May 8, 2009, my wife and our baby were safe already but my baby needed to take shots of antibiotics because of the fact that he already had his bowel movement while inside the womb of his mother.

But on the next day, May 9, 2009, I noticed that the baby has been turning into yellow.

Our baby’s doctor explained that the jaundice was the result of the incompatibility of the blood of my wife and our baby. My wife’s blood is type O while my baby’s blood is similar to mine which is type B+. This incompatibility caused the production of a substance (I forgot the name) that made our baby looks yellow.

According to the doctor, we have nothing to worry about this. But we couldn’t bring our baby home if the discoloration continue to be worsen.

The baby has been given a continues shots of antibiotics while taking the photo therapy.

A Blogging Juice?

No! Carl Justine is not a blogging Juice. He’s not a Toyota Fortuner that I dreamed of. He’s not like a Honda XRM Motorcycle that I bought through my blogging income. The things that blogging bought me couldn’t be compared to my son. But I can’t deny the fact that the money I used to pay the bills in the hospital and to buy the medicines and devices used in delivering my son is the money that blogging sent me.

As of writing this post, I already spent more or less 47,000PhP ($1,000 if at PhP47/$1 exchange rate). And I know, I will be spending more money for my son specially that he’s still in the hospital for the jaundice treatment.

I really thank you for your support. I also thank Yuga for the refund I received from him. And above all, thanks God for all his blessings.

Good to hear that the baby and the mom are safe. my 2nd child was jaundiced too and then was hospitalized when he was only 16 days old. too heartbreaking to see the little one with tubes on and taking those shots.

anyway, no problem if you blog often about Carl Justine. we would love to know how he is doing :-) and start him blogging soon para he can be the next kidblogger.

  2. My youngest son was also a jaundice baby and it only took him 1 day to have his photo Theraphy. I know He will recover soon.

  3. One of my kids was also a jaundice baby, but with today’s medical knowledge it is nothing to worry about. Before you know it, he will be running around. Cheers!

  4. My brother had a “fetal distress” also when he was born because he also had a bowel movement while inside the womb of my mom. My mom back then underwent a CS also.

I never knew that different blood types of baby and mom will result to a jaundice baby. Anyway, I wish you all the luck and the blessings SEL.

I think you should be working hard more. I hope you could also have other sources of income offline to support your growing family.

  5. wow congratz…. btw… im one of the student from CM who handled the delivery of your child… heheheh … ” ma ok ra na imu bata… maau gani kay na dali, wa kaau na daot sa kinalibang”

Congrats on your new baby sel :)

I hope all the best for your baby. jaundice after 24 hours is normal.. yung blood type incompatibility lang ang natututukan ng doctor ngayon siguro.. anyhoo, a few shots would hopefully make your baby well plus yung photo therapy pa..

again, congrats on your new baby.. inuman na :)

Congrats on your new baby and welcome to the club!

Hope he’s alright now. My two sons had neonatal jaundice when they were born although only the older one had photo therapy mainly because he was a winter baby while the younger one was born in springtime.

My younger one had underdeveloped kidneys that caused him to have UTI. So, at a few weeks old he already was on antibiotic treatment until he was two years old.

But the good news is both of them are now healthy and active (read: sakit sa ulo) boys! Your boy will be alright.

Congratulations Sel. Like Carl Justine, my first child was jaundiced too, owing to my wife’s type ‘O’ blood and my ‘AB’. Just imagine seeing your first baby and not being able to bring him home because he needs to stay a week more at the hospital for his photo therapy. Doctor told us it would have taken only 1 day had there been sunshine on that day but the whole month of December 1999 was cloudy. Anyway, things always turn out good eventually. Cheers! When’s the ‘binyag’? :)

    • SELaplana says:

      thanks po.

CJ is now fine, and is very much healthy. Kaso wala kaming binyag because we’re not catholics. Pero we have “paghahandog” wherein we offer our child to God. and we’re working for it na, kaso wala ding pakain hehehe.
