I've just tested MediaTemple (dv) which comes with Plesk and 30 domains.

I'm a web developer and not a server administrator. Therefore I would ne a step-by-step guide on how to set up new accounts and websites.

It's probably easy when you first learn it, but I don't have the time and resources for that. And the support is approx one answer per day.

DreamHost has a much easier admin panel. I have to correct point 6. Dreamhost has Account Privileges, which lets you choose what your customer sees in the admin panel.

I've had DreamHost VPS now, but the site is a bit slow. I will now move to PS and see if this helps.

Thanks everyone, very helpful reviews. I priced out both for my needs.

Cost for DH: $162.53 per year
Cost for MT: $204.00 per year

That includes discounts and extras needed. I think I might go for MT because they have more redundancy than DH. DH has one datacenter in Los Angeles, while MT has one on the East coast and one on the West coast. I like the fact that both companies seem quite transparent in communications on their blogs; talking about the good and the bad in their services honestly.

Anyone hosting a podcast on either one of these?

Media Temple's (gs) has been awesome for me with 99.99% uptime since November 21st, 2006. I experienced a 24 hour downtime when a scheduled 6 hour maintenance took longer than expected. The 24/7/365 phone support alone is well worth the extra money because I have never waited more than 2-3min. to talk with someone. The ticket system has been slow at times but never the phone support. They also recently doubled the RAM on the (dv) line which makes them a really good deal.

Most if not all of (mt)'s problems with the (gs) seem to have been solved with the newer hardware architecture discussed in their blogs making it a very reliable service.

To clarify, you only get one (1) control panel on Media Temple's (gs) product line to manage all your clients. You cannot have a control panel for each client. It is different for the (dv) line because they use Plesk which allows you to create multiple accounts for clients with each one having their own control panel. I believe Plesk comes with 30 domain licenses.

I never had too many problems with dreamhost except I found their control panel very confusing/complicated for simple tasks. Support was fast for the initial response but took days to get a secondary comment after I replied to their answer. The whole mysql management stuff was also very confusing and nothing compared with (mt)'s excellent database management tools.

If you can afford (mt) I wouldn't recommend anything else...but if you are on a limited budget and can't afford them then go with dreamhost.
