Yeduguri Sandinti Rajasekhara Reddy who is known as YSR is the Chief Minister of the Andhra Pradesh state in India. He was considered by the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as the “Mascot of Governance.”

He died in a helicopter crash along with Principal Secretary P Subramanyam, and Chief Security Officer A S C John Wesley, in hillock in the dense Nallamalla forest in Kurnool district which is 10 km away from Rudrakoduru on a hostile terrain.

The Bell 430 Helicopter of the AP Aviation Corporation is piloted by the group Captain S.K. Bhatia and co-pilot Captain M.S. Reddy. It took off from old Begumpet Airport at 8:35 am on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 going to Chittor district. Then at 9:35AM they were reportedly missing.

According to Mr Rosaiah, the chopper hit the cliff, went up in flames and exploded. Except the tail, the helicopter was completely distroyed. The bodies of the four victims were charred beyond recognition and were recovered 24 hours after being reported missing.

The Andhra Pradesh government declared on Thursday a 7 days mourning: “The State Government declare with deep sense of sorrow the sudden demise of Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy on Thursday,” Chief Secretary P.Ramakanth Reddy said in a message to all District Collectors.

Reddy was laid to rest in his native constituency of Pulivendula in the state’s Cudappa district with full state honors and in accordance with rites of Christianity, Friday. Indian flag flew at semi mast in Delhi & all Indian state capitals on Thursday & Friday and declare the two days as non-working holidays.
