   Hi Selaplana, first of all I hope you are feeling much better from your illness and I wish you a speedy recovery.

   I found your blog last night while searching for ‘make money’ so I guess you are ranking very very well on the SERPs. I’m from Singapore and I have been blogging on and off lately about making money online as well, mostly talking about selling stuff online and not so into affiliate marketing, although I am experimenting in this field. I must say I am very impressed with your blog and the dedication you have in creating so many quality posts about this topic. You must be very knowledgeable in your blog niche to have some many followers and many comments on all your posts. Great job!

   Personally I have been making a number of posts with unique content that the few visitors to my blog have found helpful. I have not been heavily marketing my site primarily because I don’t know how to. In fact, this is the first comment I have ever left on any website/blog with my blog address. You are the first.

   What advice do you have for someone like me who is having trouble building up traffic? I will continue reading the rest of your blogposts as I find them very useful, but in the meantime, before I get to them, I would really be grateful if you could just shoot me your ‘top 3 tips’ for someone in a situation like me.

   For the rest of selaphana’s loyal readers, I would like to extend a warm ‘hello’ to all of you as well. Looking forward to exchanging wonderful insights in the post comments with all of you.

     if your problem is getting traffic for your blog, then you need to learn the proper SEO. Search engines bring free and targeted traffic into your blog.

   Sir, is it ok to have a blog without a specific niche… I have a blog wherein I post a lot of post but of ifferent topics…. please advise I am new to blogging…. 1 week old hehehehe

     A blog without specific niche can hardly convert audience into buyers. In other words, it’s not really profitable to have that kind of blog. You might earn from Adsense but your income is just too low compared to when your blog is focused on certain niche.

   Just an opinion. I think blogging without a Niche is really kinda difficult. Because you can’t focus on one thing. What if for example one follower is interested on one particular topic of the many you created. If you do not have a not chosen a particular niche then that follower cannot find anything to follow up that specific topic. In other words they will be tired of you not giving them the same content they first liked. Just an opinion though, hope it helps in a way.

     That’s true John, I kinda regret making my domain name so fixed too. I originally wanted to blog about one topic, but lately I got interested in some other topics, so I’m torn between starting a new blog or segmenting the blog into various categories. ~_~

   Thanks for the tips guys…. @John Hawke what if I regularly post updates on the diff topics?

   @Angel….kindly explain the diff why is that traffic for a single topic or niche is larger than with several topics… I was thingking if there are at least 5 interested at 1 topic and you have 5 topics then that would be 25 while if you only have 1 then its only 5 readers…. I am new at blogging and I need to learn a lot…. Thanks so much!

     well, if you can focus your blog into 5 different niches, then it would be better than having a single niche. Just like what you said, if you can have 5 targeted visitors in every niche, so in 5 niches, you would have 25 targeted visitors. And having 25 targeted visitors simply means larger income.

     However, if you are simply posting posts in wide range of niche (without focus)…. as if you just wanted to publish anything into your blog… then I think, it’s better to have a single niche than having a blog like that. A blog with a wide range of niches, could hardly get a targeted visitors.

     An example to a blog with a wide range of niches are personal blogs that contains only the ramblings of the blogger about anything that came into his mind.

   Your blogging tips are definitely a big boost. Right now i’m kinda a newbie at this so i don’t have a fixed niche at the moment, which is why my blogs are like a mixed bag. I’m just trying to get a feel of expressing anything that pops up in my head although in the near future i do plan on a specific theme. Looking forward to more helpful advice. Keep it up!

   Sel,

   I just want to know if Google counts social traffic (direct traffic) in ranking your site in SERP. Google must be thinking that a site with high social traffic contains the relevant content because people keep coming back to a site if they think the site has important content related to a topic/niche. What are your thoughts.

     I think, it’s not the traffic from the social networking sites and social bookmarking sites that Google and other search engines consider in ranking your blog in the SERP but the backlinks your blog got from these kinds of sites.

   Ok. Does the magnitude of direct traffic affect the sites relevance to a topic and thus adsense earnings? If more people keep coming back to a site, then Google should realize that the site is a real one – contains relevant and high quality content , not just a spammy site that focuses on keywords and quantity. And when Google realizes that a site is indeed a real one, shouldn’t Google pay a higher cost per click? What are your thoughts?

     Google couldn’t track the site’s traffic unless the site uses the Google Analytics or the users visiting the site use the Google toolbar, or the visitors are coming from the Google SERP.

     It is true that Google consider the traffic of the site when ranking it on the SERP. However not the traffic coming from any other sources, but only the traffic coming from its own SERP. The more Google Search users clicks on a certain site listed on the SERP, the more that site’s relevance is given weight, thus its rank moves up high.

     However, it’s not the only thing that Google consider when ranking websites at their SERP. And I noticed that it’s the backlinks that Google give more weights in giving the PR to every webpage and website.

     Google could also track a website traffic if the website displays Google Adsense and Google Ad Manager
