Nissan To Mass-Market Leaf EV


Nissan Motor Co said on Tuesday that they will mass-produce the Leaf EV for the Japan market for this year up to March 2011. For this period, Nissan is expected to produce 6,000 Leaf electric vehicle.

The company will start to accept order by April 1 and the start of the delivery will be expected on December this year.

Leaf EV is actually a battery powered hatchback vehicle. Its price will be 3.76 million yen ($40,640) in Japan but the company is trying to drop the price by the help of the Japanese government subsidies.

The five-passenger Leaf is designed to provide a range of 160 km (100 miles). Nissan has developed the battery pack for the Leaf with NEC Corp (6701.T) so that it can be recharged overnight on a 220-volt connection.
