In Surigao Gateway Hotel

I feel tired today and I really need a rest. So I don’t have other choice but to check in at the Surigao Gateway Hotel in Surigao City.

My family (my wife, our son and I) were on our way home to Maasin City after taking our short vacation in San Agustin, Surigao del Sur. We left San Agustin this afternoon at 1:30 even if I felt sleepy already. I don’t know what’s the cause of it, but my wife suggested that it might be the stress caused by the activities we did yesterday.

Yesterday morning, I went to Barangay Tagungon, Tagbina, Surigao del sur (about 70 kilometers from San Agustin) along with the two brethren in the church (Iglesia ni Cristo) for a church related job. And soon as I returned in San Agustin, Surigao Del Sur in the afternoon, I again became busy helping my siblings in the preparation for the 74th birthday celebration of my mother which was held in the evening.

I was not in a good condition since this morning, but we really needed to go home because we have a lot of things to settle. Before leaving San Agustin, Surigao del Sur I drank two plastic bottle of Cobra energy drink hoping that I would feel better, considering that Cobra energy drink contains Vitamins B, Taurine and Caffeine. But the two bottles of the said energy drink failed to relieve the stress that I have. So, my wife again suggested that we better stay overnight here in Surigao Gateway Hotel.

Last week, we’re here too in a standard accommodation worth PhP 1,450 (with free breakfast for two). Now, we took the De Luxe accommodation since no standard accommodation available.

I paid PhP1,550 for the De Luxe accommodation here in Surigao Gateway Hotel and it still has the free breakfast for two for tomorrow. The only difference of this to the standard one is the bathtub.

Surigao Gateway Hotel has pool, conference room, restaurant and better parking area compared to other hotels here in Surigao City that I visited already. Besides, it is located at junction of the highway going to the downtown of Surigao City, Lipata Ferry Terminal and to Butuan City.

The hotel is a Wi-Fi zone. It has seven available wireless networks but all these networks are not secured. However, I haven’t found any problem with an unsecured wireless connection as long as my laptop is secured with a security software and other security measures.

I actually wrote this post at the lobby of the Hotel. The guard who was standing at the door was staring or watching me. I don’t know what he’s thinking about me and he had no idea that I talked about him her.

Overall, the Surigao Gateway Hotel was good and I was contented on the accommodations and the services they have.

By the way, it’s not a sponsored post. I might be making money online by blogging, but no one paid me to write this post.

A Short Vacation in San Agustin (Surigao Del Sur)

We (My wife, our Son and I) are currently here in San Agustin, Surigao del Sur for a short vacation and and at the same time we’ll be attending the 74th birthday celebration of our mother.

We left Maasin City riding the tricycle that blogging bought for us last Sunday evening and dropped by Malitbog, Southern Leyte just to check how’s the life of our aunts and uncle. Then on Monday morning, we left Malitbog, Southern Leyte. We arrived in Liloan, Southern Leyte after about 3 hours of travel.

We stayed the whole afternoon in the Ferry Terminal (Liloan, Southern Leyte). At 5:45 PM, we’re on board the Maharlika 5 bound to Lipata, Surigao City.

The Maharlika 5 vessel was too slow. The Super Shuttle Ferry which was smaller than the Maharlika 5 and left Liloan Ferry Terminal at 6:30 PM went ahead of us at about 8:00 PM near Pintuyan, Southern Leyte. According to the guard that I talked at the Lipata Ferry Terminal, the Super Shuttle Ferry arrived at around 10:00 PM while we only arrived at 11:30 PM.

My wife and I were both tired at that time. So, we stayed overnight at the Surigao City Gateway Hotel and got rest. The standard room of the hotel cost P1,450 including the free breakfast for two. The room is good and is better than those cheaper hotels and lodging houses in the area.

By morning, after our breakfast at the restaurant of the hotel, we again started riding the “Blogging Juice” tricycle. That was at around 9:30. Then we arrived in Cabadbaran, Agusan del Norte at 12:00 noon. We took our lunch and a little rest before starting rolling the highway again.

At 3:45 PM, we arrived in San Francisco, Agusan Del Sur. We shopped fruits for “pasalubong” like Mango, Apple and Lansones. Then after 30 minutes, we’re on our way again to San Agustin, Surigao del sur. We arrived here at 5:30 PM.

Over all, our trip to San Agustin, Surigao del Sur was safe, enjoyable, and exciting. I considered it as one of our great adventures considering that our one year old son was with us riding only a tricycle, and the total distance we traveled was approximately 500 kilometers from Maasin City, Southern Leyte to San Agustin, Surigao Del Sur

We’re also thankful to God for being with us the whole time. We even avoided the apprehension of the Highway Police forces even if  we did not secured a permit travel considering that the tricycle that we’re riding was classified according to its LTO registration as “For Hire Vehicle“.

Google Wins Over Viacom’s 1 Billion Suit

The judge presiding the 1 Billion copyright lawsuit against Google by Viacom has finally ruled that Google didn’t infringe copyright of Viacom when videos owned by Viacom were posted at Google’s Youtube.

According to U.S. District Judge Louis Stanton in New York, there was no copyright infringement because Youtube removed those videos immediately after receiving a complaint from Viacom. Based on the Federal Digital Millennium Copyright Act, the service provider (like Youtube) is not liable for infringement soon as they remove materials from its site when notified.

On the part of Viacom, they will file an appeal for the judge decision.

Quintana Mendoza

Quintana Mendoza was a teacher in Batangas National High School. She died at the age of 59 of multiple gunshot wounds on her body.

It was her 62 year-old husband, Mr. Florentino Mendoza, who shot her several times on June 19, 2010 inside their house in Barangay Malalim, Batangas City.

According to witnesses, the couple had heated arguments. When the husband lost his temper, he shot his wife once. The teacher run out of their house but her husband chased her and shot her several times on her body.

Happy Father’s Day!

After attending worship services and performing my duties in the church (Iglesia ni Cristo – my wife being a “Mang-aawit” and I am with the Finance department), we (my wife, our son and I)  immediately went to the “Kinamot sa Abgao” restaurant to celebrate two celebrations: (1) Father’s Day; and (2) our Wedding Anniversary.

We just ordered our favorite foods such as “Kinilaw” (Raw Fish in fillet), calamares and Lechon Kawali.

After eating our lunch, we stayed there for hours enjoying the cold sea breeze.

And as of writing this post, we’re already ready to start our trip to San Agustin, Surigao del Sur.

Splash Page

What is Splash Page.

The Spash Page is sometimes called an introductory page that links to the actual websites. Other webmasters called this as homepage but it doesn’t contain any useful content at all except the links to the important webpages, or websites.

Splash page is widely used by advertisers. It is the where the users who click the ads from an advertisement will land. They call this page as the landing page.  It is usually designed to capture the users attention so that the users will be enticed to buy the advertised products. Some of this page automatically redirect the users the the real webpage of the advertised products. However, there are many landing pages that contains only a flash movie, or an interesting images with a click here button.

However, you should take note that even if the splash page is considered a landing page but not all landing pages are splash page.

In SEO (Search Engine Optimization), webmasters and bloggers are advised not to use splash page as the homepage for their websites or blogs because splash page will just ruin the website or blog’s ranking at the the search engine result page.

Widgetizing a WordPress Theme

Some of you knew or if not noticed already that this blog is using a theme that is not available at any WordPress theme directory. It’s because I am the one who designed and coded this theme.

I may have knowledge in creating a WordPress theme but it’s not enough for me to create an optimized and widgetized WordPress theme.

Just recently, the WordPress 3.0 was released. I immediately upgraded my blog to the latest WordPress engine thinking that nothing would go wrong. But I was wrong. I encountered lots of problem especially on the plugins that this blog is using. And one of these problems were caused by plugins that were already in widget form.

So, I realized that I really need to widgetize the theme of this blog.

Here’s what I did.

Step 1. Create a file “functions.php” and save it on the directory of the theme used by the blog. You should take note that the file name is “functions.php” not “function.php”.

Step 2. On the “functions.php” file, I wrote this code:

if ( function_exists(‘register_sidebar’) )
‘before_widget’ => ”,
‘after_widget’ => ”,
‘before_title’ => ‘<h5>’,
‘after_title’ => ‘</h5>’,
‘before_widget’ => ”,
‘after_widget’ => ”,
‘before_title’ => ‘<h5>’,
‘after_title’ => ‘</h5>’,
‘before_widget’ => ”,
‘after_widget’ => ”,
‘before_title’ => ‘<h5>’,
‘after_title’ => ‘</h5>’,

Obviously, I was defining 3 widget areas in the sidebar of this blog. These are named as “sidebar1″, “sidebar2″ and “sidebar3″.

Step 3. Each of the 3 sidebar widget areas that I defined in “functions.php” file has a corresponding code that should be placed in the desired area on the sidebar.

For the first widget area I used this code:

<?php if ( !function_exists(‘dynamic_sidebar’)
|| !dynamic_sidebar(‘sidebar1′) ) : ?>
<?php endif; ?>

For the second widget area, I used this code:

<?php if ( !function_exists(‘dynamic_sidebar’)
|| !dynamic_sidebar(‘sidebar2′) ) : ?>
<?php endif; ?>

And below was for the third widget area:

<?php if ( !function_exists(‘dynamic_sidebar’)
|| !dynamic_sidebar(‘sidebar3′) ) : ?>
<?php endif; ?>

Step 4. Then that would be the time that I added widgets in every widget area. It could be done by clicking the “Widget” link under the “Appearance” at the WordPress admin panel. Then click and drag the desired widgets to any of the 3 widget areas.

Step 5. Checked the blog and saw that I was successful in widgetizing the WordPress of this blog.

In that simple steps, my blog’s theme is finally a widgetized one.

I thought at first doing this is hard, but it was actually too easy.

iPhone 4 is Sold Out, AT&T Website Fails

At around 1PM, Tuesday, iPhone 4 is officially sold out.

People who were trying to pre-order the latest version of iPhone online were complaining that the AT&T website that catered the orders online suffered massive failure. Some of the users logged in to their own account but ended up in another user’s account and failed to place their orders online. Other users also were greeted by an error message saying, “There was a problem with your request. We’re sorry, but we are experiencing a system error that prevents us from completing your request.

But with these glitches, Apple successfully sold out the iPhone 4. However, the device will be made available by June 25 and those who preordered the device through the Apple’s own website will finally hand on the phone by July 2.

There’s one thing you need to take note about… The iPhone 4 is not iPhone 4G but it’s just the 4th generation of iPhone.
