Google to Compete Apple on TV and Film Distribution

Google is currently on talks to different leading  studios in Hollywood for its plan to launch a global pay-per-view service by the end of 2010. The new service will be introduced at Youtube wherein users can rent new movies or TV shows via Youtube streaming (not download) especially those newly released ones.

The Google search engine will also be incorporated to this service. The search engine will be used to refer the users to the movies or TV shows based on the queries made by the users.

5 CUL Bus Passengers Died in Accident

The CUL bus line with plate number TWV 912 fell into the ravine when its brakes failed while taking the zigzag road of Barangay Silangang Malicboy, Pagbilao town in the Quezon province Sunday at about 3:00AM killing at least five passengers and injuring more than 54 passengers including the driver.

The said bus came from Tacloban City and was on its way to Cubao. It was driven by Oscar Yadawon Pedrigosa, 36, when the accident happened. Victims were brought to Jane Country Hospital and the Quezon Medical Center in Lucena City while the remains of those passengers died  were brought to the Betty Funeral Parlor in Pagdilao.

PIA Website Hacked

The website of the Philippine Information Agency was hacked Sunday. Visitors couldn’t access the website by the afternoon, however, Google showed in the search result the description saying, “Hacked by 7z1“.

All government offices are urged to secure their own websites. “We are adopting best practices to lessen the vulnerability of our websites to hacking and other cyber crimes,” Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio Coloma said during the press. He also revealed that the government official website and that of the President are still secure.

The hacked website, however, was fixed and live again by 7PM local time.

LimeWire P2P Site, Closing

October 27, 2010 – I was using LimeWire before in getting songs and movies for free. But then after realizing that most of the free files shared through LimeWire were infected by Trojan and similar malicious softwares or codes, I stopped using it.

Now, Lime Wire was ordered by a Federal court late Tuesday to shut down its LimeWire site permanently ruling that it allowed the massive scale of infringement by its 50 million monthly users. And by January, the court will determine how much should the parent company Lime Wire and its founder Mark Gorton pay as compensation to the tens of thousands of copyrighted materials used by the million of users of the peer-to-peer website.

33 Trapped Chilean Miners 2010

The 33 Chilean miners hired by San Sebastian Mining Company were trapped 2,300 feet below the ground in San Jose gold and copper mine, Chile (Chile is the world’s top copper producer),  on August 5, 2010 during the rock-collapse incident. They were confined in a 600-square feet.

It was on late August 22, 2010 when the rescuers learned that the 33 miners were alive. For 17 days, rescuers had been drilling and at around 700 meters (2,300) deep the trapped miners tied a note into the drill which said: “The 33 of us in the shelter are well.”

However, the company that hired them couldn’t help them anymore because it has no equipment or money to be used to rescue them. The escape tunnel that cost £1.1m has been drilled by the state-owned mining company. And according to their plan schedule, the escape tunnel will be finished by Christmas 2010.

Three holes were drilled down to their shelter: One is for the communication, another hole is for the lowering of foods, and the third one is for the ventilation. With this holes, the miners and their families exchange letters. And then using the camera sent down to them through the hole for lowering food,  they recorded a video, showing the 33 miners with their message to their families, the cabinet with emergency and first aid kit, the place where they entertained themselves, etc.. The video was  broadcasted on August 26, 2010.

The miners uses the batteries of the vehicles inside to power the lights and in charging their helmet lamps.
