Busybee Textblast, a software company that sells text-blasting device that can send one text messages to millions of cellphone users was raided by the National Bureau of Investigation or NBI on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at around 5PM. The company’s office is located at V.V. Soliven Complex, along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA), Greenhills, San Juan. The raid was initiated through the complaint filed by the Globe Telecommunications alleging that Busybee Textblasts is engaged in illegal activity called, “text spamming”.
Before the raid, the company was under surveillance and it was proven that it was selling the GSM device used in the illegal text blasting activity.
The NBI raiding team confiscated GSM devices used for text blasting and copies of software. It was noted that the said GSM device is not registered with the National Telecommunication Commission or NTC. It was believed that the device along with its software is used by politicians in their campaign, by scammers for their scamming activity like sending text spams that solicits money or fools a cellphone users by telling them they won a raffle promo.
The owners will be charged with the violation of Republic Act 8484 or Access Devices Regulation Act of 1998.
